not much of a speed difference between a 3000 4000 5500 on the mediator. The 4000, and 5500 give you more ram. Thats about it. The 4000 and 5500 give you exactly the same amount of ram becuase the mediator only accesses half of the 5500 ram and only one of the VSA's so it is a very big card of which you only use half of.

So it might be a tight fit if you have a small case or a power tower. There is an Amiga dealer that makes nice big cases in the States and even custom ones. Engraved backplanes the works.

www.mrhardwarecomputers.com sells them but does not make them. Not sure of the companies name that does.

Funny thing is this I installed a mediator in a power tower for my friend today. The damn mediator did not sit right in the case here is a case made by elbox and the card cage was 1/4" too high. the cards once screwed into the back of the tower sat above the pci slots. Also the voodoo 5500 hit the bottom of the 3.5 inch bay's so I  had to move it down one slot.

I've been wondering this, is it actually worth getting a voodoo  5500 for my A400Di setup? It seems as if many people run Voodoo 3 3000's  - is this because of compatibility? I read about the faster RAM of the Gfx card being used, so surely it would make sense to get the 64MB Voodoo 5500?Thanks

Sorry about all the questions, I don't know where to start with my Mediator.

I wouldn't bother.  Just save the extra money and stick with a Voodoo3.

When I still had my A1200/mediator system, I swapped out my Voodoo3 2000 for a Voodoo5 5500 and everything was just the same as before (maybe even slower, I don't remember exactly as it was a long time ago).  Quake was just the same speed, so was Shogo, Freespace...

Only good thing is the extra RAM, but nothing really takes advantage of it so  you have to keep opening shell windows and typing "availP96" just to justify the purchase to yourself.

The voodoo 4000/5000 can do 15bit modes. Thats the only reason I can see using one. They cost more then the 3000's do.

if you are on a a1200 with BPPC , well then get a voodoo3 as you wont be able to use more than 8mb for the system anyway..

if you are an a3000/4000 ppc user, then u can use it fully (32mb on voodoo5)

if you are on 68k then you will get 16 on a1200 with voodoo3 and 32 on voodoo5..

just some wos vs warp3d problem under ppc... on a1200...

:)
Whats up with all the hate!

Thanks for your replies guys, much appreciated. Will start looking at ebay then - might just wait for a bargain, rather than decide I will have one particular Voodoo.  By the way, its a CS060 mkII that I'm running. I got the mediator, but haven't bought any cards for it yet....
