hepless help...
« on: July 22, 2007, 05:02:44 PM »
Not to start bashing people, but this is kinda irritating...

It seems to me that there are quite a few people here who would rather rant and rave about auction prices or the infamous Doomy than to put forth some actual knowledge helping others with miggy woes. Yeah, a lot of you do help others with problems. Maybe if I had cried about my system not function properly instead of asking secific questions, I would have gotten more response. Not that I want a load of people throwing their two cents in, but at least an attempt at helping out with some form of knowledge.

Note: this is the only amiga forum that I visit, so this is where I find most of the usefull information. Thumbs up to those who have contributed in a positive way. Some of the others on this fourm need to get laid or something.

Now, back to sorting out my A3000 external scsi termination problem as posted in this thread...

I'm very sorry to hear that there are some threads on this public forum which are not precisely related to what you're looking for. That is quite a shame.

Wait a few years until only collectors are left, then the quality and frequency of helpful posts will improve.  That's what I'n doing.

My experience is that as long as you ask a sensible question you get sensible responses. there will always be the odd jerk or angry person. so what. scrolling is free and ignoring is easy.

heya JJ, there have been several times when I had posted a problem, not this time though, a couple days would pass before an response was posted. In the mean time several posts about nonsensical stuff flared up, mostly about ebay prices or the doomster, rambling on for many paragraphs. Which made me belive people would rather rant and rave than help. I have gone back though several months worth of posts (bored, probably) looking for an answer befor posting up a request. Got kinda frustrated. My apologies. Everythings gonna be okay. The medication is taking affect... :-D

Ooooh! So you weren't ranting and raving about people ranting and raving in your own thread. You were ranting and raving about people ranting and raving in another thread about high "Buy It Now" prices on Ebay, when they should have been helping you with your problem instead of ranting and raving.

Now I've got it :-D  :pint:

Just use the old "How to get help from the Linux crowd" trick.

You Don't:

Q.) Hi. I'm trying to get NFS working through my firewall. What ports do I need open?

A.) RTFM n00b. Here's a hint, "man nfs"

You Do:

Q.) It's impossible to run NFS through a firewall, I've been trying forever! Linux blows.

A.) NFS will work through a firewall! Just open UDP port XXX and make sure the client has permision in the export file, /etc/exports. Further, you might have trouble with the portmap daemon........ Linux is great, this is all well documented exactally here(link), step by step blah blah blah.. If you need any help my e-mail is ...

Translate this for your favorite Amiga hardware/software question, and watch as the answers fly onto your screen.

I'm of course just kiddings. These are the friendliest bunch of Europeans ever! I feel awesome to be a part of it.

Bye.
