Picasso2 > Cybervision64 ?
« on: July 15, 2007, 07:50:02 PM »
I just got myself a nice cybervision64 off ebay. I was also watching other auctions of the same seller since he was auctioning lots of gfx boards, and among them were two picassoIIs. I'm planning to replace a PicassoII+ in my A3000 with this cybervision so I was watching those auctions too. to get idea what the picasso II is worth.

strangely, picasso's ended higher than my cybervision ! ( see links here and here) I was like WTF ? Surely cybervision64 is the better card right ? Or am I missing something ?

No, the CV is the better card. It's Zorro3 and has twice the RAM. Both cards have passthrough.

Since the PII is Zorro2, however, it appeals to a wider market segment. Not for any technical reason, obviously, but because more people can use it. That probably drove up the price.

The CV64 is Zorro 3 only, so the target group will naturally be more limited. The Picasso II card going for around 100 EURO has a not-so-often-seen add-on card, so that might be the reason for it selling at that amount.

I wouldn't mind selling my Picasso II for 80 EURO though :-)

Hmm, yes, cv64 is Z3 only, I missed that. That must be it. Actually I didn't think I'ld win this board, so I didn't even snipe it :) well, anyway, it's a good deal.

CV64 is only Zorro III so I guess more people might be looking for 2000, 3000 video card. 3000 can use CV64 but has to have buster 11 to enable Zorro III if you have an accelerator. CV64 will work on 3000 with older buster but only at 030 25mhz. So I guess it is a matter of Purpose. The CV64 is a much faster card though and is probably the ideal 3000 card since it has a built in flicker fixer. For the 4000 without flicker fixer I would go with the picasso IV, Although the CV64/3d card is a good alternative if you can find a rare CV64/3d scan doubler but not to sure if that works with aga screens. I think you mad a good decision, I have a couple and use one in a 3000D and it works great.

Great purchase, congratulations!

The CV64 is probably the best not-3D video card for Amiga.
I use it in my A3000 and I'm very very happy.

Zorro III, 4MB, Passthrough, P96 and CGX4 compatible... what do you need anymore?

Picasso's auctions ended always very high but only the Picasso IV is better than CV64.
In the past I used also Picasso II and Picasso II+ cards. They were good but CV64 is another story.

Enjoy it!  :-D
