Finally, SUCCESS!
« on: July 14, 2007, 01:24:17 PM »
Last night I got the A4000 part of SimStation booting.  I never dreamed it would take so long.  I learned that, at least in the version I have, WinUAE is very, very particular about a precise sequence to get a drive recognized, partitioned, formatted, and OS installed.  I had found the English Amiga board that had some execellent step-by-step tutorials on this...but none of them worked even though they appeared quite logical.  This is not for the faint of heart.  I'd apparently long since worn out the interest and patience of the High Priests here so was flying pretty blind, though what input I rec'd was certainly useful.

Now, I intend to fortify and build up the "working" drive for productivity use, get it backed up, then go to work on the SimStation boot problem.  I will be trying your patience again but PLEASE consider the issues I put in front of you and render an opinion if you have one.

The original boot issue with SimStation is this:

After numerous tries to get a second drive recognized so I could back up the original, the machine crashed bad during a copy attempt.  Afterwards, I only got a CLI and the error message "invalid resident library."  Since it is not telling me WHAT invalid library, I am not sure what to try replacing.  Someone recommended SnoopDOS which I have obtained but haven't quite figured out how to set it up for boot logging yet.

Any thoughts will be very much appreciated.

One other thing:  it would really help if I could get a second IDE drive up on the Amiga rather than having to go through the issues with WinUAE.  I can see it (already Amiga formatted and loaded) with HDToolbox, but I cannot get it to show up otherwise.  I assume it should be set to "slave" and on the middle IDE connector, but don't know what else to do...

Also, the boot drive that is working has 3 other formatted partitions on it that are not showing.

Thanks,
Dave
