Can you give me a bit more info about what you are trying to do?
Might be able to offer some alternative solutions.

Me thinks that he can download WHDLoad into his PC but cannot get it into his Amiga. Hence, the request for it to be on Amiga formatted disks. He probably needs to format an Amiga disk with his PC, put WHDLoad on the disk and then double click on the usual PC0 icon in his Workbench:Storage/DOSDrivers drawer for the Amiga to read it :pint:

Yep but he's running WB1.3 and that doesn't come with CrossDOS. How do you get that to your Amiga with a PC?

Doh! I can't see WB1.3 in his post above. Anyway, unless I am mistaken it says HERE that Kickstart 2.0 (version 37+) is required. I've never tried WHDLoad below 3.0 myself. Well at least we have bumped the thread for him :-D

Getting WHDLoad on a floppy from somewhere won't really help since he still needs installers for his games. He should really look in to a long-term solution for transferring files from PC to Amiga, many of which can be found by searching this site.

@A4000_Mad

I looked up his username and found this post:

Topic

So I figure he wants to use that setup.

But you're right about kickstart 2.0 for WHDLoad I guess, So no point in trying it on 1.3...

I do have kikstart 1.3... On an A500... But as stated I have no way to transfer ADF's to it... I have another A500 with a rev 6a board and kikstart 2.04 in that one on the way from Cali.

So how can I get the WHDLoad disks?

Thanks for the bump by the way...

Well, WHDLoad is an archive you need to download; there are no official disks. The archive won't fit a DD floppy anyway. Not on PC or Amiga formatted disks; it's 893 Kb. When you get it to your Amiga you also need to decompress it. Then you need to transfer games as well.

I would advise you, like others did, to search for a way to connect your Amiga to another computer to transfer files. Do a search here on the forum for some ideas!

If you have a LOT of time on your hands... you could zip the ADF file into two sections. Copy these onto DD PC floppies from a PC then copy them onto your Amiga. Use PKZIP or some other Amiga Zip utility to decompress the two zip files back into the ADF. A bit time consuming but it will probably work.

Just a thought...

You could probably skip the PKZip part since it hasn't been used since the days of MS-DOS and use FileSplitter on the PC to convert your large file into 720k chunks.  Format the floppies to 720k from the Windows command prompt, use CrossDOS on the A500 to read the PC floppies, then use the join command from the CLI on the Amiga to join the chunks together on your A500's hard drive.  Then to create a real disk of your .ADF file, use ADF2Disk.

Are you planning on running WHDLoad on the A500 with Kick 1.3?  It won't work, only on Kick 2.x or higher and you really need Fast RAM also or it won't work very well.  Even on a A600 with 2MB Chip and no fast a lot of games do not work.

If you have 1MB in your A500 you can transfer ADFs to it, its tricky but you need to get CrossDOS or other type of FAT12 file system.  Then you zip the ADF on the 720k disk, read and unzip it to RAM: then ADF2Disk it to a real disk.

In the end... if you are going to go to all that trouble to get these ADF files over to your Amiga which may or may not be able to play them depending on the system.... (sounds like a lot of work to me)...

Why don't you just run WinUAE on your PC and run the games from there? If you have a P3 or better, it will probably be faster anyways!  :-D
