a2065 transceiver

I bought this transceiver for a2065 card. But it doesn't work  :-(

At first I had a lot of problems with a2065.device (OS3.9) on AmiTCP but they seem to be solved after using ethernet.device from aminet in DEVS:Networks/

I can startnet and ping localhost now, at least. (haven't used any env settings)

But, the transceiver shows NO signs of life. All the diodes are always off. UTP cable is OK. How can I test if its faulty transceiver or a2065 or.. ?

do you have the jumper set for thicknet pins B-C? If you search this driver(a2065.device a2065v216a)on google, it works perfect for me.

There is a row of jumpers (or one big multi-pin jumper)
that activates the AUI port. Mine worked fine with an old
HP xcvr.

If I remember it is right behind the connector on the end of the card.

Looks very familiar - I think I've got the very same one.
If the lights are always off, there's probably something wrong: A2065 damaged, transceiver dead, cable dead. Do you own an old PC NIC (e.g. 3C509) with AUI where you can test the unit? I've got a lot, they're free for postage.

These old transceivers are pretty cheap; might be the easiest way to just buy another one. $15 is pretty overpriced, I paid ~2€ for mine (eBay Germany, used).

The AUI port on the ethernet card provides power out to run the transceiver, you could check there is DC present (can't remember if it's 5 or 12V) when the computer is running.  Should be easy enough to find the connector pinout using Google.
The power will probably be via a fuse of some sort, so that could be a possible problem.

Last time I used an AUI transceiver on a Quicknet 2000 card, one of the ground pins on the D-range connector was not connected to ground, so I had to modify the card slightly in order to get the transceiver running.  Might be worth checking that as well.

just checked the a2065 card and the fuse(?) F1 is dead. Could that be the cause? anyway, I'll try replacing it..

ok, it says 3/4 A which complies with your schematics so I'll try with 0,7A standard glass fuse. I got 4A picofuse but its better to be safe than sorry.

Easily sufficient. I can't imagine it drawing much more than 100 mA.
