I just went through some dry runs last night with WinUAE in preperation for my A1200 upgrades and found out that it installs Miami 3.2b... ugh...

So, my options are to stick with "cripple-ware" Miami or dig deep into AmiTCP or another stack.

I am going to be using a serial line to my PC (internet router, of sorts) and getting another ethernet run put in later this summer. (when I can find the time)

Was there ever any hope of getting key files for Miami, now that it is abandonware???

If you get OS3.9 it comes with a full version of Genesis.

Yep.. I know couple devs in person and none of them never gave permission (was not even asked) to H&P for selling their goods nor did they ever got any compensation of their code been sold.

It's kinda shame though. People spend quite a lot time with those things.. And it's stolen and sold ..

I thought AmiTCP was GPL, hence the AROS and MorphOS ports? :-?

There is a GPL version of AmiTCP (3.0b2), but it's quite outdated. MOSNet is based on this GPL version.

The MorphOS 1.5/2.0/xyz built-in network stack is based on the latest full AmiTCP/IP. It is properly licensed.

Oh, so it is based on AmiTCP rather than a brandnew stack as some observers claim.

Hi

Dry runs with an emulator before upgrading your A1200 is a touch confusing to me can you explain...

It is truly a shame that Miami is no longer available to register, but it was never ever offered free, given that the creators wanted paying for their product. The fact that they ceased selling the product doesn`t make it abandonware, as you have obtained something for free which was never intended to be fully distributed that way. I could understand it if they had sold you the product and you had a drive failure or lost the registration documents. You cannot curse the creators who never agreed to give the software out for free. There is only a slight nuisance with the software with a time out, and all the software is on Aminet so you don`t need to install the version off 3.5.

Abandonware is subjective and a touchy subject with folk like me who have registered versions of Miami, Genesis, Mui, IDEFix etc etc which I regularly get requests to part with the keys etc. Which I guess was the purpose of your mail.

Never knew the Genesis on 3.9 was dodgy.

It's a shame that "Roadshow" was never released for 3.x after all the work that was done on it. I remember reading an article written by the developer. He started with source from AmiTCP 3.0b2 I think, and ended up writing most of it from scratch. I think he actually finished it. It's a shame that we'll never see it.

I could be mistaken though. It was years ago that I read about it.

I would gladdly pay for Miami, would that there was a way to order it.

Abaondonware is that which is no longer able to be acquired legally. Period.

I am kicking myself that I never purchased a copy, way back when...

Same thing for putting down money on an 060 board and high density external drive when I had the chance.

Yeah, and I am kicking myself for losing the keyfile for my purchased version of Miami that never got installed.  I remember buying Miami Deluxe right as I was getting into using other PC at home and very busy at work.  I sort of got lost in the land of Windows and stopped using my Amigas for a while.  When I came back, I had lost the Miami Deluxe keyfile or key code, or what ever it was that unlocked the program and gave full use of all the features.

I wish I could find it, but not likely.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)
