What do you do while waiting?
« on: June 16, 2007, 11:05:18 PM »
When you've got some new amiga stuff coming your way, or you're waiting for someone to e-mail you with a price for some hardware/software that you're going to buy, what do you do to pass the time?

I'm waiting for both a whole system and an e-mail about a system... So far today I've taken apart my A2000 and tested all my spare zorro cards (All working), taken apart my broken A4000 ready to either fix the motherboard or put a newly bought one in, started to re-arrang my room to have an amiga dedicated area, fixed a Dataflyer 500 which stopped working a few years ago and played with the stuff on the drive for a bit, plugged the CD32 in and had a blast and played a game of trivial pursuit on the CDTV against my mother...

So.. as I was saying... What do you do to pass the time? lol

Like many on this board, I'm waiting for some new OS4 hardware to appear.

In the meantime, I am tweaking my Amithlon machine. It's the closest thing to a modern Amiga I have.

Recently, I managed to get USB working on it.

Also, I have gotton RDesktop and TwinVNC clients working as well.

RDesktop is really cool. It's like having an updated BridgeBoard. I can open up my WindowsXP Pro machine remotely, either as a window on my Workbench screen or as a full-screen which I can toggle back and forth (left-Amiga-M). I can also cut and paste data between the two environments.

TwinVNC allows me to remote into a linux box. It's not as fast or responsive as RDesktop, but it works.

My next project is to get MIDI working on it. I'm not sure whether to go serial, USB or SB128 card.

I've gotton a couple real emulator programs working, E-UAE for running Amiga programs that need custom chip support (on Workbench 1.3) and ShapeShifter 3.11 with MacOS 7.5.5. Works really fast.

I turn on my classic Amigas every once in a while. They never fail to bring a smile to me.

Why do yo go outside and rejoin the real world.  Get some fresh air, play some sport or just read a nice book!

Blasphemy! lol..

I do go out occasionally, usually in the evenings though for a couple of drinks... And also down the post office if I miss a parcel... Apart from that, inside is more fun :p

Plus my fianceé likes to stay in and watch films, so I keep her company and work on stuff during said film..

So MOS now runs on Efika?  The morphos-team.net site hasn't been updated since december.

(I haven't been paying much attention lately)
Code 6502 asm or... DIE!!

You're in Cornwall! There's a wonderful world outside your door. Why don't you go down to the beach - go for a swim or surf, hike on moors, go camping on the Scilly Isles! Hell, I miss that place. Do it before the emits arrive.

[fast show voice]
This week I shall be mostly clearing my allotment of trees and ivy.
[/fast show voice]

On Thursday camping and walking in Wiltshire for a few days - near Calne, at a campsite with chickens, horses and Pygmy goats

Back at work the week after - fortunately I'm learning a lot in my job, and generally enjoy it, although it can get tedious when involved in a long monotonous project.

Have recently repaired a GVP Spectrum 28 card with an exploded capacitor. Today I rearranged my office and got down to a minimalist desk - only my PC and a4000 are now set up to use.  The rest will (eventually) be going on Amibench/Ebay.

I also enjoy gardening and cooking - strawberries are cheap here this week, so I made a strawberry and kiwi fruit flan, with organic flan pastry base, arrowroot and orange juice glaze, and whipped cream.  MMMmmmmmm...

Last week I made a hazelnut roulade, whipped cream filling, and rolled in freshly ground nuts.. MMMmmmmm...

And I like baking my own pizzas with organic flour base, anchovies, olives, stonebaked....  MmMmmmmmm...

Yep, slowly but surely I am becoming a fat git
Mac Mini G4 (1.5GHz, 64MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.6
Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

Windows-free since 2011-2014 (Damn you Netflix!)

I restored a A1000, A4000 and working on restoring an A1200.  I also went out to the bar, took the kids to see the TREX named Sue at the museum and went singing Karaoke:)  Oh yeah I drank plenty of beer too.  Cheers
