data transfer via serial port

Greetings All!

I want to get my Amiga 1200 (68030/50MHZ 16 megs ram) online but need to transfer some drivers and other files to it in order to do so.  I have no floppy drive on my other computers (Powerbook and b/w G3) but I did burrow a usb to serial adapter to plug into my PowerBook and am hopping to use the serial port on my Amiga 1200 to transfer data back and forth between my PowerBook and the 1200.

Is their any software built into the Amiga OS (term program?) to help me do this.  I believe the OS on the 1200's harddrive is 3.1 but I am not sure.

Any ideas are appreciated.

I recommend terminus, I think there is demo on Aminet.
One of its versions could be run from single executable file (about 200Kb large I think), sweet!

There are very few options unless you have the capability to send at least some small software to your Amiga first.

The easiest option is to mount the PC0 mountlist on your Amiga, insert a floppy disk, and format PC0. This disk will then be read/writeable in both the Amiga and a PC. So you could put the disk in a friend's PC to put a terminal application on it, and then copy it to your Amiga.

The second option if you can't find a PC with a floppy drive is here. It involves writing an Arexx script which will receive a file through the Serial port. You don't have any way to copy the script to your Amiga, so you would have to type it in. The problem here is that you have to run a piece of software called ADFSender on a PC to actually send the file. I don't know if there is a Mac alternative.

Further to my post above, there is a third option: take the hard drive out of the Amiga and put it in a USB hard disk caddy. Connect this to your Mac and run an Amiga emulator to get access to the disk and copy the files you need to it (i.e. the terminal app). This would probably be quite complicated to set up just for this purpose so one of the other options would probably be preferable.

You might also consider using a PCMCIA network card on your 1200.  I think you would still need to put some software onto your 1200 to use the network card/access a network.  However, if you were to buy such a card from an Amiga dealer, or possibly second hand from an Amiga user, you could have the software provided on a floppy disk.

I'm guessing the easiest option would be to buy a PCMCIA network card from a dealer who can provide you with the software, and some after sales service.  It wouldn't be the cheapest option, but at least it's not really very expensive, anyway.

If you can use pc software, you can run AmigaExplorer. It copies the needed files automatically on the Amiga using a flaw in the os(from what i heard) so it doesn't need you to have any soft on the miggy to start. This is for kick 1.3 but i suppose that for a kick 3.0 3.1 it should work as well.
