A1200 Case MOD can it be done?
« on: June 08, 2007, 10:31:39 PM »
Hi folks.

I am thinking of making the ultimate classic 1200 desktop mod.
And i am going to need your help/feedback with this one
So inside in the belly of the beast:

Blizzard PPC 200Mhz /060 with Bvision
A laptop CD-rom.
Subway USB conection.
2.5 Harddisk

And of course a paintjob of the case, so that there is a perfect colour match with the oversized tft screen. And possibly black CDTV keys

First of all , will it fit…
Heat can also be a problem
Does it exists ,a CD rom that swallows the disc like a cd player in your car ?
How many devices can I hook on to the A1200 IDE connector?

feedback and ideas are welcome

The CD-ROM your talking about would be a slot load and they are kinda pricey for a slim line type model.

I am currently in the process of making something similar.

The difficulties I am having is that space is very tight in the case when you add slim CD/DVD if you are going to run IDE-splitter so I may go without one.

Anyway, what I have planned to have in my A1200,

BPPC with BVision
DCE-FF
CF or 2.5 HD
Slim DVD
IDEfix
Floppy
Bmon monitor switch
Internal mounted wireless NIC
+ lots of fans

Currently I have "almost" the same here:

- Internal notebook CD:-o
- Internal 2.5" hd:-o
- Internal 4000sx Dataflier (not arrived yet, but will soon, I have the room for it)
- 4x IDE splitter (DIY), Aminet version.
- 2 fans  (one sucking air to outside trough the vents, other notebook type blowing the acelerator/memory).

And a "grilled" trapdoor cover (maded from loudspeaker grill, painted in white) plus feet raised with that silicon rubber dots (commonly used in furniture):-D

But the project will change in a couple of months: I've buyed a MediTator today!!!!! So goodbye orig case :-D  :-D  :-D

Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

I see no reason why it shouldn't work, looks like a normal IDE thingy to me. You'll only need that CD-IDE converter.

It's a bit pricy to me, but then again, we're used to that with Amiga :-D

I can help you with the CD drive. I have a Pioneer slot-loading laptop CD-RW WITH the IDE adapter which will allow it to work with a 4-way IDE splitter (or the built-in IDE interface with a 2.5" -> 3.5" cable). PM me if you're interested in buying it as I have no use for it.
