Off-center game screens
« on: June 03, 2007, 12:35:46 AM »
Is there any way to center the screens of my WHDLoad games?  They're off the bottom-right edge of my TV screen.

My workbench uses NTSC:High Res 640x200 because I use an old TV.

The reason is they are centered for PAL users. There is no way to center it.  You can play with the prefs and off center the default WB but that would cause issues in WB, but worth a try.

Okay, thanks.  I'll mess around with it then.   :-)

Don't move the screen further left than 72 pixels offset from the minimum.  This will cut into the time that the chip-set has to fetch sprite images.

I have used PAL TV before, and all games were off center, to the right and top IIRC. The only way to fix that was to connect TV with SCART directly to RGB port like monitor.
Better sorry than worry.

Try to see if anything changes if you set the NTSC tooltype in the Whdload game's icon.

Well, I tried a few things and fixed most of my problems.

I used the horizontal position control on my C= 1702 monitor to move the screen all the way to the left, then I used the overscan pref in WB to move the workbench back to the center of the screen.  That helped quite a bit, PAL tooltype games run in perfect center now.  Then I changed the tooltypes on some games to PAL, and found out that was why a lot of my games weren't working at all.  Since my machine is NTSC, some games require me to set the PAL tooltype to even run.

Anyway, thanks guys!  GREAT help!  I love this community.  :-D

I'm a little surprised that the Workbench overscan preferences have any affect over non-system-friendly games.

Kind regards,

I think what he means is he used the physical controls on the monitor to shift everything over so that the games were in the right place, then used the overscan setting to move Workbench back where it is supposed to be.
