A1200 floppy will not boot discs times out -please help

Just bought an Amiga 1200,switches on fine with the enter disc screen.when i put in a floppy th efloppy light comes on it ticks over for 10 seconds than goes out without loading anything.it did work for a while .then didn,t once switched off and used later.Any ideas - please help

I assume that your A1200 doesn't have a harddrive. Are your disks OK? What kind are you trying to load? Games, the WorkBench?

Possible causes

1:- bad disk
2:- dirty floppy drive head
3:- Faulty driver in another area.

Try another disc that you know for certain that is good, try others to.
Try a head cleaner if you have one, assuming that will work in the Amiga`s present condition.
Do you have another spare floppy drive external? if so try that.

Thankyou for your quick replys.I have tried numerous disks.inc benhmark3.0 and the official utilities that came with it.when it was working the drive sounded like it was searching the disk.now it has the same (just the motor running sound).rest are a mix of copied and official games.

Hi Also tried cleaning the heads with a long cotto bud and alcohol.bit hard to get too

Try slackening/tightening the right hand case screw that is nearest the A1200 floppy drive until the disk recognises correctly.

It is probably the angle that the disk is going into the drive.

I've got the same problem with mine.  Just discovered it today.  I have a harddrive, and my system boots fine, but no floppies work.  Tried formatting...  It gives an error about cylinder 0.  It won't boot off of the floppy drive either.  All these disks are fine, I tried them in my other miggy and no problem.  I took everything apart and it looks like the head is searching for whatever track is on the outside of the disk. It doesn't move much, but the head is moving.  I tried reseating the cables too...  I just figured my drive has gone out.  I guess it could be dirty, but I've used a head cleaner too.  It worked before, then I put it up for a while.  Now it doesn't.

I'd like to know what to try next also.

I unmounted my drive totally and tried it.  Got the same response. :-?

Hi Guys had mine out to but no joy,annoying as it did work once.thanks anyway.I will work out the cost of the floppy,i gather it has to be tat one not an old one from a p.c..
may use an emulator and my bench discs if thats possible ??
