Source for Elbox Mediator LT4 and D-Box case?
« on: June 02, 2007, 11:52:56 AM »
Hi folks... long time lurker here ;-)

I picked up an A1200 a few years ago after owning a 500+ as a teen a seemingly LONG time ago!

I've slowly been updating it here and there; added a 40mhz 68030/68882 and 40mb fast ram (8mb soldered on board + a 32mb simm), replaced the drive with a bigger 10gb one, and fitted 3.1 roms and installed OS 3.9 - I've also been sourcing old games from various places (both buying and downloading) and messing around with whdload (what a lifesaver that thing is!!).

Anyway, as much as the thing works brilliantly, with just the basic AGA setup it's a pain to navigate and do much maintenance in workbench (I'd also like to properly use those funky newicons for game directories - but without a graphics card it really chews through ram and is unusable; even using fblit).... I find myself ripping the drive out quite regulary, stuffing it in a USB caddy and using UAE on my PC to do anything non-trivial (re-arranging lots of directories, copying large amounts of new whdload installs etc..), so I was fancying picking up a graphics card to make the workbench more useable.

As the PPC+BVision setup is hens teeth at the moment I was contemplating a Mediator PCI board and a case to put the whole lot in. Elbox has a reccomended retail price of $199 for the D-Box 1200 and the same for the Mediator LT4... however I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them for that kind of price; they're all around £40-50 more expensive.

What's the cheapest supplier of these at the moment? (preferably UK!)

Yeah, you're right - and those prices on the Elbox site don't actually have VAT included, which does make them more expensive.

I bought my D-Box from Amigakit along with other Elbox equipment, what I found was that the shipping from Elbox in Poland was expensive which really put me of getting them direct.

Amigakit were far cheaper for shipping, I think if I remember rightly at the time I was £8 to ship from Amigakit and Elbox wanted £25!

Also the service from Amigakit is fantastic, highly recommended  :-)
