This is a GOOD post!

I'd also be interested in that script as well!

If we want to get even more insane with the patching:

Systempatch
FText (a "must" with FBlit IMHO)
BlazeWCP
NewCMQ060

Also, a nice FBlit feature is the ability to render icons in fastram (read docs), which also requires WBCtrl. (As an aside, if you use this FBlit feature with the current version of Systempatch, you *might* have to forego certain gfx.library patches to avoid icon trashing.)

There's already a similar attempt, it's the unofficial BoingBag3, I don't know about its status though:

Hi

There used to be a tutorial in the tuts section on how to speed up your miggy (piru's exec etc. I believe). Where has that gone and could the contents be added to something like this?

Also, if any more beta testers are needed I'm up for the challenge!

Did any work ever get done on the project to make an installer to upgrade OS3.9?  This started as an interesting thread and turned into a long list of wannabe beta testers.

I wish someone had made a comprehensive list of all bugs in 3.1/3.5/3.9, documented what they are with example code that trigger them, and references to fixes.

Or perhaps there already is one?

I have a couple of questions concerning some of the steps listed for upgrading OS3.9.

You stated:

3-replaced serial.device for the older less buggy one

Is the older less buggy one the one from OS3.5?  I had never heard this before.  Is this common knowledge and a step that most people use?

4-replaced all buggy printer drivers for the original AmigaOS 3.5 ones

Are all of the printer drivers in 3.9 buggy or just a few?  If just a few which ones are they?

17-replaced mpega.library with a new one which has better precision

What was the new one that you used?

23-got T.H.E to edit the workbench "tools" menu, and add my own hotkeys, in an OS friendly way

What is this program?  Is it public domain or commercial?

Thanks,

Dan :-)

Sorry, you can only get the printer drivers i mentioned from OS 3.5 CD.
Anyway, lots of printer drivers can be downloaded from www.pcguruplus.com Peter Hutchinson's site

SystemPatch replaces most (if not all) of what TagLIFE, CMQ060, BlazeWCP and NewWPA8 do and more. In addition, it gets along well with FBlit and MMU.library.

Personally, I still prefer BlizKick over the startup-tools provided with MMU.library cause it makes patching the ROM easier (as to things like a new FFS, ram-handler, shell etc.) without having to deal with Load- and ExtractModule and tricky startup-sequence command lines for SetPatch.

Workbench.library is out of date.. 45.131 is the latest unofficial patch.

.. and the latest shell is 45.27.

Am I the only one who's missing piru's excellent SmartCrash in this list? And TrueMultiAssigns? And if you're using IDE, you should really patch the scsi.device for that last bit of extra speed using the patches provided in the BlizKick archive.

My internet connection failed on A4000 after installing the boing bag with serial.device Version 43.7.
I Just repaired it by reverting to serial.device from the OS3.9 CD Version 43.3.

Actually, this may be about the 2 different OS3.9 CDs, which are described in Varthall's link. One had the erroneous printer drivers, one did not. We've compared these files in irc between the 2 different CDs and can confirm this. I 1st noticed this when I unarc'd the boing bags and found files identical to ones I already had.
Further research showed that these were the printer drivers from the "o.k." OS3.9 CD, which I was fortunate enough to have from the start.

@Gulliver

It would even be cool if someone maintained a web page with links to the files you mention. It sounds like they would be exactly what I'd like to put on the system initially.

Everything else would be more customized by preferences.
