Ridicolous prices
« on: June 02, 2007, 12:40:24 AM »
Yep. Ridicolous prices. Was checking a site for some amiga equipment.

A retailer is still advertising that they have some PPC603 boards for sale. The price was "only" aprox 1000 dollars for it. Guess they sell a lot of those

If they can sell one of those, the market is really in need for some new hardware

Have some PPC603E for big box and A1200's and 604E's

(Push in the menu: Amiga, akseleratorkort).

My mistake.... The most expensive card is aprox 1500 USD

They also appear to have an Amigaone XE-G4 at 7543 NOK (around £800).
Hmmm, the shopping cart just let me order 11 Amigaone motherboards. Perhaps it's not linked up to their stock.
Mac Mini G4 (1.5GHz, 64MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.6
Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

Windows-free since 2011-2014 (Damn you Netflix!)

Heck, you can order Coldfire Dragons and SharkPPCs.  I don't think the site is actually linked into REALITY.

Have to agree on that but something is actually linked to reality.

Some months ago I sent them an email about the A4000T they had listed. They actually had quite a few of them in stock. They auctioned one of those away for an amount far above what I was willing to pay for it a couple of months later.

aaah...

the good old DATAKOMPANIET...
They were the best (and since 1998 the only) Amiga dealer in Norway. But since 2000 they have not updated their amiga part...

Mostly, they do not sell amiga equipment any more.
And since then they have not updated their Amiga site either.

I am suprised it still is online...

But IF and only IF they can get any hardware (or software for that matter) they will sell it...
But be prepared for LOOOOONG time waiting...
Amigakit is a much better alternative....
(and those prices are dated back into 1998 when they actually sold those products...)
Amiga 1200 Tower Os 3.9
BPPC 603e+ 040-25/200, 256MBram, BVIsionPPC, Indivision AGA MK2.
Amiga 2000 (rev 4.0) Os 1.2/1.3
2088 bridgeboard, 2MB ram card, 2091 SCSI.
Amiga 500+ Os 2.1
Derringer 030, 32MBram, Buddha in sidecar, Indivision ECS.
Amiga CD32
Video decoder

Yes, it is indeed odd that their site suggest that they have non existing hardware in stock. I highly doubt they charge you for it if you order one of their non existing hardware though.
I myself have had nothing but good experience with these guys, and they are also quick to respond to mail.

They mainly concentrate on PC hardware these days, but they do still sell Amiga stuff and i last bought something from them just last year and they have also added the new Efika to their website.

I think the main problem with the prices are the insane import taxes of Norway, which means it will get alot more expensive than in other countries when you stock up on a handful at each time.

Outrageous prices?

Check out the current market value of an A3000 in Australia:

Now if the new owner wanted to put a PPC card in there, they are up for around AU$2,000!

Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

I have to say that I'm fairly disappointed with the expectation on Amiga pricing.  There are far too many people who want more than fair value, and apparently enough people who will pay it.

Leaves people like myself out in the dust.  Why pay US$750+ for a CyberStorm PPC when for a bit more I can get a full AOS4-compatible system used, or (I believe) about double for brand spanking new...

Of course, if I can still get a brand spanking new AOS4 system.  I guess at this point I'm just waiting for the new hardware to be available.  Is it?

Sorry comrade, you seem to have missed how the market economy works!

"Fair value" is precisely what the market decides - and if you BELIEVE that too many people are selling above fair value, and too many buying above fair value - guess who is wrong?

It ain't the ones buying and selling (ie: the market), it is YOUR expectations of the market.

Why pay US$750?  Because there is NO NEW HARDWARE.

There will be NO NEW HARDWARE (of note).

Supply v demand.  Supply is small, and dwindling as components die with NO new manufacture and limited repair options.

Demand is growing, as more people rediscover their computing origins and now have the means to obtain that which they could only dream about in their youth.

Get used to it.

shillard and amiduffer - My Amiga, pc and sound equipment tech just gave me an A3000 which he says is in great shape.  Haven't tested it yet, but still,...free.  You gotta know the right people for the right price.
