WTB: DB9M/DB23F video cable - A2000 to Commodore 1084S
« on: June 01, 2007, 08:57:07 PM »
Just picked up an A2000 and a 1084S monitor but I have no cable to connect them together. Just wondering if anyone out there has one available for sale.

I have a 19" Viewsonic VGA monitor that I use with my Mac - are there any adapters available to allow me to connect it to the A2000? The 1084 sure is small...

I haven't used an Amiga since the early 90s so I'm a little rusty. My apologies if I ask dumb questions in the near future.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi,

Your Viewsonic monitor is unlikely to work with your A2000... Like most Amigas, the A2K uses slow 15KHz screenmodes and require either a dedicated monitor (like the 108x series) or an expensive multisync-capable devide.

An alternative is to use a scan-doubler (which effectively de-interlaces the Amiga's output and ups the screen scan rates to VGA standards), but these are usually horrendously expensive.

If you can't get the Amiga to 108x cable, try and get hold of an A520 video modulator. This will generate composite video (and RF) output from your Amiga. Not the best in terms of quality, but these are usually dirt cheap and can be used with pretty much any television.

P.S. Welcome to Amiga.org!

Hi, are you sure that its a DB9M (Male) you need?
I thought it was a female.. which if so can be bought from Oldsoftware.com for $9 or two for $16.. they also have a picture of the cable.

As for the VGA monitor, you would either need a graphics card like the Picasso IV (which has a built in scan doubler) or a scan doubler to turn the 15Khz "TV" signal into a VGA (31Khz) signal. You can also buy lower quality adaptor from ebay that lets you view the TV on a standard monitor, this would work with the Amiga and a suitable lead (Either 23pin to scart or a A520 for RF) Your A2000 may already have composite out (some do some dont, mine does not) which would also connect to such an adaptor
