A1200 Video Problem!!!

My A1200 will only display in black and white!

Sounds like your Amiga is PAL and your screen is NTSC, or vice-versa. If this is not the case then you have a hardware fault either with the Amiga or with the screen. If it's not the screen then try another output from the Amiga.

Is it connected to a monitor or a TV?  RGBI, composite or RF?

Its connected by its video port though a 520 modulator to a 1084S monitor! (by a composotive cable)

What happens if you connect the composite connector directly to the composite output? (yellow phono connector)

either run the composite cable from the composite on the a1200 to the monitor or get an rgb cable for it.

The back of your a1200 without an a520 connected should have 4 phono size connectors.

modulator > for connecting aerial to tv
yellow composite > to monitor
red+white for sound

i doubt you will get a proper picture from the modulator but you should from the composite.

otherwise you need a 9pin>23pin monitor cable.

did you just get this amiga together with the monitor or have you had it working before?

Gwion: Is this the A1200 that had the ROM problem ? Have you fixed that ?? Didn't it have "display" problems before
Can you let us know if the tv modulator works to a tv in colour ?

yes this is the same 1200,i have sent him some gratis     3.0 roms, it is now up and working again,but it still has the same video problem b&w no colour,told him to get either a rgb >scart lead or  amiga rgb > vga adaptor.

What sort of 1084S accepts UHF modulated input? I ask as I know, for a 100% fact, that mine did not.

If you have one the same as mine was, then you can select CVBS (composite video/blanking/sync on one cable, yellow plug) or L/C (two cables, yellow and black plugs) with a switch on the back. If the switch is set for L/C then you will not get colour through the CVBS input, as that channel will only be carrying Luminance and you will not have anything connected to the Chrominance input.

A1200 composite output is quite reasonable, but RGB is so much better - it is worth the cost of a proper cable (imo).

The picture is clear and the 520 modulator worked fine with my A500! The screw on the RF has been pushed right in and i have tested the RF on the 520 but its still B&W do you think its a hardware fault i have but it on PAL and no change.
