Options for USB on A2000...

Can someone point me in the direction of options for USB on an A2000. Preferably something inexpensive (yeah, I know, we ARE talking Amiga here :-( ). I did see a SCSI to USB adapter but I think that was to attach SCSI devices to a USB equipped computer. What I wish to do is be able to use USB thumb drives to transfer files.

Your options are:

Thylacine
Highway
Algor (Pro)
another Zorro board w/ clockport + Subway

You'll need some other expansion as well. 030, Kickstart 3.1, some RAM. There's a new USB stack on Aminet that can run on basically unexpanded 1.3 systems, but it doesn't yet support massstorage devices.

Thanks for those names. I guess I should have known that it would not be that inexpensive to do it. I wouldn't mind $50 but $150 (CAD) is more that it is worth to me to be able to do what I want. And if I ever spend $150 on my A2000 I will buy a NIC instead. For now I will stick to null-modem.

I would recommend the SubWay if you have a clockport available. I bought one 2-3 months ago from SoftwareHut and plugged it into a spare clockport on my X-Surf and it works great. It also comes with Poseidon. I now use a LogiTech optical mouse and a MicroSoft multi-media keyboard with my A2500. I have also tried various USB thumb drives without problems. It comes with 2 backplanes for your A2000 that give you 4 USB ports.

The Thylacine is pretty cheap. Check out this thread from a few weeks ago. Registering Poseidon will cost more, but you may be able to get by with the included Sirion stack.

If I had an X-Surf I wouldn't bother with the USB interface.

Interesting thread, to say the least  :roll: . I just thought if I could do it cheaply I would. I will keep that link (the good one) in my history and hope that I can become un-unemployed in the near future.

i ve tried two A2000 boards with thylacine, it didnt boot at all dunno where can be problem, cards (yup, i bought two:) itself works fine in A3000 and A4000
