How many apps uses TrueTypeFonts? Where to get?
« on: June 21, 2003, 09:32:09 AM »
I've just been playing around with Perfect Paint and noticed that it uses the ttengine wich is a fast TTF (True Type Font) engine...
Anyway I just came to wonder, how many amiga apps that you guys know of support these type of fonts?...

And are there any place on the net to get some fonts as freeware?

Oh, yeah and one more thing...
If I don't want the .ttf fonts to be in my FONTS: path but elsewhere, how do I get the WB3.9 to "think" the .ttf is in FONTS dir or FONTS: assign?
I've tried a path command but thats not the trick is it? I've also tried the assign command but can't remember what arguements I can give it...

Edited 2 times to make the questions more clear :-)

Cheers

AFAIK there are only a few apps that use Truetype such as Wordprocessors (Wordworth) and possibly DTP such as Pagestream 3+.

You can specify where to put your fonts by using assign e.g. ASSIGN FONTS: DH0:TTF_FONTS ADD
with the Add parameter.

You can download fonts from:

If you use TTFLibrary from Aminet, all of your applications can use Truetype fonts. MorphOS comes with a Freetype2 based font library and
AmigaOS 4 has one too (if it ever appears).

I wrote a tutorial a LONG time ago that explains how to set up Voyager with it:

http://www.kittycat.co.uk/computing/webfonts/

.. as for getting fonts, if you download parts of XFree86 or GNOME, there are some free-for-use truetype fonts in there.

Everything in order now...
(And I must say I'm a bit flaw over the Assign command :-) )

And I've read the toturial Kitty it was a help indeed...

ImageFX also uses TTF. and as far as I can see all three amiga browsers use them. some need more configuring, but  the TTF engine makes it available to the entire system.
the no CARB diet- no Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld or Bush.

Are TT fonts any better than Outline ones or it's just a different format? Both are rendered to the desired size using mathematical formulas no?
