C= 1084 monitor w/ Acorn Archimedes?

I've got an Acorn Archimedes A5000 w/ color card.  I've been using it on a VGA screen but most games won't run unless it's got a 15kHz screen.  Anyone know of a 1084/1084S will work with the Archimedes if the proper cable is used?

I don't know if this is quite the info you're after, but I'll try.

Some time ago I got a microvitec 14 inch screen from a local school they were using with archie's. The sticker on the back says "Manufactured for Acorn Computers".

With the help of a gender changer, it worked fine on my 500. Inside it looks very much like an early 1080, or 1084.  It even suffers from the power switch problem suffered by some amiga monitors.

Some earlier Acorn-branded monitors were pretty much the same as the 108x CBM-branded ones.

Later ones that were sold with Archimedes hardware, e.g. the computer-in-a-keyboard A500-style range like the A3xx series, were sometimes rebadged Microvitecs and as such are multisyncs.

The Microvitec 1483 works fine on both the Archie and the A1200, displaying a range of screenmodes.

If in doubt, check! You don't really want to be supplying out of range signals to early monitors!

Also note, you can tell the Archimedes to use a 15KHz screenmode at boot time. Haven't dug mine out for a while so I can't remember exact details, but have a look at the "*CONFIGURE" command's many parameters.

I just need to know if a 1084 will work as at 15kHz screen for the Acorn Archimedes A5000 and if so, how to get/build a cable.

My Acorn monitor used a standard 1084 23-9 pin cable with a home-made 9-9 gender changer. (Actually, it was 2 d-subs soldered back to back!).
This may help you "reverse engineer" a cable?

If you're trying to convert a monitor with a DIN plug, I can't help.  :-?

You could try building your own cable...

Pinouts for the Archie's video output can be found here and here, and the 1084's video input can be found here and here.

The Archie's 15KHz screenmodes should be OK with the 1084 but if in doubt, check! And as I mentioned above, don't let the Archimedes supply anything other than a 15KHz display to the 1084 or it could end up as toast!
