Adapter to use an A2000 keyboard on an A4000?
« on: May 24, 2007, 06:28:59 AM »
I've seen adapters that let you use an A4000 keyboard on an A2000 - but does the reverse exist?  I've got an A4000 keyboard with a broken left-Amiga key, but I've got three A2000 keyboards that work just fine.

From what I can tell the pinout is *not* PS/2, so I can't just use a normal AT-to-PS2 keyboard adapter from the PC world.

Recommendations for adapters that will let me use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse on an A2000/A4000 also welcome; if I could hook either system into my KVM setup that would be best of all.

u can use a normal pc adaptor without any probs whatsoever provided u have an amiga keyboard.
using this adaptor with a pc keyboard will not work.
for mouse, u need a hardware adaptor like the cocolino, see amigakit.com

To use a PS/2 keyboard, you can use the Lyra adapter. There is an A2000 version IIRC, but you can also use the A4000 version with an AT-Adapter.

In my experience, KVM switches are very critical when it comes to mouse adapters like the Cocolino. Most brands work only partially (no scroll wheel, jumpy mouse) or don't work at all. Switches branded Belkin work fine.

MrBill

Those adapters do indeed exist. When I bought a spare A2000 keyboard for my A4000T from Vesalia, they included an adapter for me to use the keyboard on an A4000D if I wanted to.

The pinouts are the same in an Amiga keyboard and a PC keyboard, so you can use a normal AT->PS2 adapter to connect an A2000/A3000 keyboard to the A4000.

Here is the adapter you will need to connect a A2000 keyboard to an A4000:

To use a PS/2 mouse on the Amiga, you will require a Cocolino adapter:

To use a PS/2 keyboard on the A2000/A3000/A4000 you would require a Lyra:
