Amiga 1200 HDD Support
« on: May 21, 2007, 10:49:42 AM »
Hi All,

After quite a while since posting, I have finally managed to replace my miggy. I am looking at upgrading my internal 600Mb HDD as this A1200 had it pre-installed. I am wonder what the maximum size drive A standard A1200 will take as I have not purchased a SCSI adaptor as yet. Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Many Thanks,

Antony

A1200s with 3.0 ROMs will not be able to utilise hard disks larger than 4GB.

I've used upto 120GB HDD with Amiga 1200 with 3.0 ROMs. Obviously for this to work the internal scsi.device must be replaced (scsi43 + patchstrip, IDEFix, or similar), and you must use a filesystem that does >4GB area properly (such as PFS3).

And you CAN use bigger HDs with unpatched 3.0/1, but you just have to use first 4GB area of the HD and leave rest unpartitioned. And remember that partitions should be smaller than 2GB each then...

Just added, because it might be harder to find smaller than 4GB disks nowadays ;)
