Dataflyer 1200+ and CD-ROM. How ? [SOLVED!]
« on: May 14, 2007, 02:38:47 AM »
Hello Guys,

I've recently acquired a Dataflyer 1200+ for my A1200.

Currently i have one 6GB 2.5" internal HDD connected to it, and everything goes fine this far.

Last week i tried to use an external SCSI CD-Rom with my A1200, but i can't mount the CD-Rom, no matter what i try.

I have OS 3.9 installed in the HDD, so software wise i think i'm covered.

I've configured the CD-Rom jumpers so it's ID 4, and tried to mount the CD as scsi.device unit 4, but all i've got was a "can't open scsi.device unit 4" message from Workbench.

I would like to know from a Dataflyer 1200+ user, if i'm missing any software or driver.

As the board came "loose" (no manual or disks), i'm relying on the info i gathered on the Internet.

Thanks !

I'm not familiar with the Dataflyer on the A1200, but I have the Powerflyer Gold in mine (similar thing?).  Are you asking why your SCSI CD ROM won't work with your IDE adapter?

you must use "ExpXDS.device", not a "scsi.device"

http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/dataflyer1200

one of useful tool for scsi probing

http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/ProbeSCSI008

with this you can see if its properly terminated and ID, etc etc
too lazy to use shift key properly...

Ola Mugo: what version of Dataflyer are you using? The internal or the external (with the metal house casing?)

IF you are using the external version, PM and i will help you

Ah, it does both!  That's a handy little thing.

Thanks Chain. I think i've messed the things up.

I have read this page before, but i did understand that the interface would use the scsi.device units 2 - 6 to mount SCSI devices.

Anyway, i don't have the install disk(s). And couldn't find them on the Internet.

Do someone here have them that could make an image to send me ? Pretty please ???  :-?

By the way, thanks a lot everyone !

Olá Sebastian,

No, i'm using the internal version, plugged on the IDE port of my A1200.

But if your install disks have the ExpXDS.device on them, i would be really happy if you could send them to me.

Obrigado !

Hello guys,

I tried yesterday the disk images in the webpage that zipper provided (thanks a lot pal !), and two of them had the ExpXDS.device that i needed to use the Dataflyer.

I just had to change the scsi.device to expxds.device in the CD mountlist, and it's working ! Great !

I would like to thank you guys very much for all the help you provided me !

Best Regards for all of you.
