WTB: Amiga 1200
« on: May 13, 2007, 10:04:05 AM »
Hi everyone.  I've decided to re-live my old Amiga days (and maybe start a bit of a classic computer collection) by getting an Amiga 1200.  Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be many of them in the US, at least the pickings are slim on eBay.

What I'd really like is a clean, working, North American Amiga 1200 with no yellowing plastic or case damage, preferably the original Commodore version, not the Enscom version.   Having original manuals, disks, and box in good condition would be a big plus but not necessary.  Upgrades like an internal hard drive and extra RAM/CPU would also be a plus, as long as they don't affect the external look of the machine and maintain good compatibility.

Here's a good example of what I'm looking for from the UK eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270117084196&rd=1&rd=1

There seems to be a lot more of these for sale in Europe but I'd rather not take the risk and expense of shipping overseas and buying a different power supply and stuff unless I have to.

I noticed there's an online store called "AmigaKit" that builds Amiga 1200's to order - does anyone know where they get their stuff from?  What's the difference between "refurbished" and "new old stock"?

Thanks in advance!

Refurbished means in my mind tested and any repairs needed made good.New old stock is still in their origional packaging and stored from new and discovered in some old warehouse then put up for sale.
