A3000 CD drive recognition woes
« on: May 13, 2007, 02:19:41 AM »
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the Amiga, but have had an A3000 for about 3 years, and now have some time to use it seriously. I am an old hand at IBM PCs - back to the days of DOS 3.1, but always wanted to figure out the Amiga - (I had a A500 when young).

I need some assistance with my current system, can anyone help..?

I'm using AmigaOS3.5, with an Amiga 3000 desktop, with 2 SCSI Hard drives, and a SCSI CD-ROM.

The (external) SCSI CD on my A3000 (Pioneer-DR-U124x) mounts correctly (as SCSI dev 2), but I get no icon on the Workbench that I can use to view the CDs in the drive, however the device is detected correctly, but nothing else..
At boot up, I get a message that tells me that "CD0 is already mounted" and "program 'CD0'has not yet returned, do you want to wait some more?" with Ok or Cancel options
but other than that, nothing

I looked in System/Devs/Dos Drivers, and it has CD0 device which has the properties:-
Default Tool C:Mount
Activate=0/Device=scsi.device/Unit=2.
The device worked correctly in the past, but it looks like the system has lost its 'association' to realize that it is a CDRom drive. I know the CDs are ok, but the drive itself my be faulty, I've no way of knowing, so far

Using System/Tools/Mounter it correctly identifies the drive and sees it as 'removable' and 'not ready'

I'd appreciate any assistance anyone can offer, thanks

What DCFS are you using? Has been corrupted or erased? I swear by AsimCDFS, as the best but there are others.
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

Thanks for your response, the answer is I dont actually know, I upgraded the OS to Ver 3.5 myself, but I dont recall what that specific details, could you explain a little more about DCFS, presumably a File System????

I dont think the FS is corrupt, but dont know how to tell...
