TV GUIDE/PreVue Channel info
« on: June 18, 2003, 02:09:38 AM »
I just got my hands on 2 A2000s that were used for the local cable comapnies TV Guide/PreVue channel, and I was wondering if anyone else knows of a website with info on these Amigas.

I'm planning on play around with them once I move and have the time to do it.

bout the only thing you can do is either, find out what tv station was using them and contact them and maybe they can get you in contact with whoever ran them or scour the hd's and see if you can find info on the previous users, sometimes they sign their work, or maybe their info is in a readme concerning oroginal work that may be on the hd, they may delete their work, but they may miss a readme....hope this helps  :-D  :-D

I don't have a website for these, but I can give you some information on them. They were used nationally at most cable companies until the mid 90's and were provided free to the cable head-ends by the Prevue Channel (now the TV Guide Channel). They showed scrolling program listings and channel information genlocked over video-, something the Amiga, of course, excelled at. That is why they were used so long at cable companies, until it became difficult to get new and replacement parts.
The scrolling listings data was contained in the satellite-received baseband video signal, and stripped off  by a Wegner- style card which fed the data to some sort of Broadcast Titler 2 style program. They are packed full of Zorro slot cards , ISA card and gen-lock video card and very crashproof-ours ran non-stop for many years before the Prevue Channel  swapped out the old Amiga 2000 boxes for a new Dell server style Windows NT unit.. All the old Amiga's were supposed to be returned, nationally I believe,to PreVue Technologies, so your's are a rarity..and they must be sitting on a pile of them at some warehouse.

The other great cable company Amiga product is Magic Box a- a rack-mounted A1200 with CD and PC keyboard adapter-rock solid.
