do you need a scandoubler/flicker fixer when you have a voodoo card installed on a mediator expansion board?

No. The Voodoo will work fine but the Voodoo can't display AGA or OCS/ECS screens.

So to play (almost) any game you'll still need a scandoubler or another amiga monitor/tv.

@ravnen

Is it possible to use progs like modepro to retarget OCS/ECS/AGA screen modes to any kind of gfx card, like a Voodoo?

To expand on that, you can try, but the result is likely to be buggy, crash-prone, and corrupted.

Wonder this crap; I used years ModePro to promote Amiga modes to RTG in my A500T, to CV3D or PicassoIV. Very minor problems, caused by programs that were not totally OS happy, mostly AGA progs. All games that were supposed to work on RTG did work. And then some which were not meant to work did work on RTG (Civilization, Colonization). The biggest problem is HAM, as animations do look quite psychedelic...
But mode promoting was a vital part of the system - until I got PicassoIV Flifi to work on my A500T.

It all depends on the software you're trying to promote. If it uses system calls and all system-legal accesses, chances are it will work fine (I've used it for years without problem). You'll only have trouble when programs access the chipset directly. Which, unfortunately is the majority of games.

If you have a TV card, there are ways of getting it to run the game through this if the game is startable from Workbench, also used this method for some things, but in the end a scandoubler is probably your best bet...

Well... I am glad that I got my 1942 fixed when it stopped working. (replaced some parts... The picture just would not stop rolling, I got a professional workshop to do the job. and now it is as good as new...)
