hey
« on: April 29, 2007, 09:54:07 PM »
hi,
i joined this site in search of a hard drive for my A500, having come across this forum it seems rude not to say hello.

a long time ago i had an A500, on which i remember playing such classics as Shadow of the beast 2 and IK+.
i was recently struck by an urge to recapture my childhood, sadly i had sold my original Amiga many years ago but i recently bought one from ebay, and so here i am, playing IK+ again and denying to myself that im getting old!

on another note what can i do about yellowing? i heard a rumour this can be cleaned or do i need to replace the keyboard?

regards,

Iolis

PS Whats the crack with these ranks?

Welcome.

I don't think that the yellowing can be cleaned off, at least not reliably. Bleach might do it, but might also damage the plastic. The yellow is a consequence of light, the plastic ages - most plastic is eventually damaged by sunlight. Just enjoy it as it is.

Rankings can be learned about from the FAQ's.

I thought the yellowing on the amigas was a result of smoking around the computer.??

it seems that back in the days. My amiga was always white.
but other friends amiga's within a smoking environment were always yellow...

Yellowing due to smoking can be washed of, yellowing caused by UV radiation can't (the plastic itself is changed).

Oh and welcome @ original poster =).

you could take the amiga apart and paint it
ive seen a few of these just stick to the basics though black or white or something ive seen a few red ones and patterns that are hard on the eyes.

or just stick with the yellow :-D

I feel pretty fortunate, none of my C= gear has yellowed yet (knocks on wood).

All I've done is keep them out of direct sunlight, and only clean with a little water, no chemicals. And of course, I never smoked around them... ;) Also, I live in a very dry climate, dunno if that helps any.

Throwing the casing in the dishwasher DOES help sometimes, especially if the yellowing is from smoke. Rubbing alcohol may also be worth a shot.

cheers
