After seeing so many posts lately about people's remarkable finds, $5 Amiga 1200's, $10 Amiga 3000's, and whatnot, I thought I might be able to strike gold today when my college celebrated Earth Day (yes, I know they're a week late), and one of the activities was a "computer recycler". People were coming from far and wide to get rid of old computers. Hundreds and hundreds of them. Some people were even paying to get rid of their old stuff. I live in one of the richest counties in America, and quite frequently, what I'd consider to be "good stuff" gets tossed as junk, maybe because somebody's messed up their six-month-old PC with viruses, spam, and porn.
Anyhow, so I went down to their collection site after my class got out, and asked what they were doing with the systems. I scouted around on the pallets and saw bunches of not-too-old PC's and Macs. I was hoping that they were going to refurbish them, re-sell them, or donate them to some needy charitable organization (I used to volunteer for one, so I know). Anything. Instead, I was told that not only could they not sell me any of them, they were all destined to be crushed and sold as scrap metal, instead! WTF?? :madashell: :madashell:
I just hope there weren't any Amigas in there, and I'd caution anyone who uses a "computer recycler" service to thoroughly investigate what their intended uses for the computers are, before being so quick to "clean out the closet". I know this isn't really a strictly Amiga-related topic, but I just wanted to get the word out. Thx.
