Software and hardware available
« on: April 27, 2007, 05:32:39 PM »
My husband, who was an avid Amiga user, recently passed away.

I have an unbelievable amount of both Amiga and Commodore hardware, software and manuals that is just going to gather dust.

I am not a computer geek and have no what I have or what is worth.

Suggestions, please?

Thanks

Candy

My sincere condolences. No greater pain than to lose a dearly beloved one.  :-(

I'm sure there are people here who are willing to help you out, maybe there are even people who live close by (Amigans are all over the world).

Maybe if you could provide us with pictures, it would start to help a bit for us to indentify what you have at home. If there are any "big box" Amiga's (the 2000, 3000 or 4000) it may also help to make pictures of any hardware that is inside the machines (some hardware is pretty rare and sells for big money on eBay).

Very sad news, my condolences.

If you're familiar at all with using ebay.com, you can use their search function to find out what some of the items might be worth. If you have an account at ebay, loging in will give you the advanced search functions. You will be able to choose the "Completed Items Only" option. That will show you exactly what an item has recently sold for if any have been listed. Watching a current unfinished auction will not always tell you the true value of an item.

If you have a bit more information, many here can be helpful in giving you recent average prices on most things. Much equipment is common and not worth as much, while certain more rare items can bring a few hundred dollars (or euros)

Once you have an idea of the values, you can always list them on ebay.com, craigslist.com or here. If you have many items, you may not be interested in all the boxing and shipping that might be needed. Chances are there are Amiga users in your area willing to pick up instead.

Welcome to Amiga.org. I am sorry about your loss :-(

To help with estimation of value, location and a general idea of what you have would help. Some Amiga hardware has the pontential for good resale value, even in 2007. I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to buy the whole lot and maybe that is what you'd prefer. However, if you want to get the most money possible selling many items indiviudally would be the way to go.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Very sorry for your loss.

As others have said if you can put up some photos or some general descriptions, as well as what part of the world you live in, I and others here would be happy to assist you.

Hi Pegasos I,

Thank you.  I am still trying to cope with the loss.

I will try to get some pictures and post them here.  I know he had at least 2 different Amigas.  He also had a bunch of MIDI stuff - drums, keyboards and a horn of some type - sax maybe?

Thanks Redrumloa.

As I mentioned in my reply to Moto, I am located about 25 miles northwest of Chicago, IL in Streamwood.

I am going to try and get a friend over to take pictures of the hardware.  I know he had a couple of different Amigas and I think there is a Commodore 64 and 128 also.  Plus lots of software and MIDI equipment.

Hi Ami,

Thank you.  I am still trying to cope with the loss.

My husband was Barton Rolsky.  I am sure he would have used Barton as his nickname.  He was a member out here, but probably hadn't been out here in a long, long while.  The last couple years of his life, his disability prevented him from using the computer on a regular basis.  Getting as far as our home office sometimes posed a challenge.  He got frustrated at waking up with QWERTY imprinted on his forehead.  :-)

Sorry to hear that. My condolences to you and your families.

If you are interested in selling his Amiga stuff check out eBay to find out how much each item costs.

Yes, I would suggest letting us identify the stuff, but then sell it on Ebay.  That way you'll get the best return value for your husband's investment/collection and won't be taken advantage of by anyone trying to low-ball you for the equipment.
