PCMCIA ethernet card
« on: June 16, 2003, 01:31:21 AM »
Got hold of a pcmcia ethernet card(10M), how can i connect it to my amiga so that i can use it transfer software from my pc?

Also when i reinstall workbench(3.0) will it be able to read pc disks. the reason i am asking is because i am upgrading my 1200's HD from 85mb to 2.1GB. Or do i have to put a command in the startup-sequence. Sorry but it has been so long and i feel like a newbie again!!! I have been on windows for too long!!

Plug the card in, turn on the computer and install either cnetdevice or 3com driver from aminet. I'm using the 3com one and it's working fine. Better check the cnet device and the "compatibility" list. Then configure either Miami or AmiTCP.  Miami is shareware and the demo version disconnects every 30 minutes but has a nice interface. If you are familiar with configuring ethernet devices by hand in Unix/Linux then AmiTCP is a good choice. Older versions are free and have everything you need for a static IP network. I'm using wget to fetch all the needed files from internal network or the internet.

There are also cardpatch and cardreset which you should get from aminet.. I never had problems with my 3com though.

Run crossdos from "storage" and you should be able to read 720k PC disks.

Good luck :-)
