eBay/Paypal woes...
« on: April 19, 2007, 08:34:36 AM »
I'm really bugged with eBay at this moment. If I understand everything correctly I can only make an auction available for selling worldwide if I have a verified Paypal account.

For a verified Paypal account I need a creditcard, which I have not, so am I right in assuming eBay won't let me put up worldwide auctions because I don't have a creditcard?

Ebay/Paypal is a swindle. Specially if they force you to
use a creditcard and then rip your money.
It's a customer un-friendly business.
Do NOT never ever fall into their trap!

What if you login on a different ebay domain from ebay.nl. Perhaps that would circumvent it? I've noticed that the options/features of ebay can vary between ebay.nl/ebay.de/ebay.co.uk/ebay.com etc.

But agreed, E-Bay are {bleep}ing thieves.

-edit-
Gah, the Paypal/EBay verification thing seems to be international indeed, so my idea won't fly. However it seems you can also become a 'verified' paypal member if you 'just' add a bankaccount to your paypal account. :nervous:

DO NOT ..I repeat DO NOT use PAYPAL..

I spoke with a few IT guys here at work and they def. dont
recommend using paypal..
And I have read countless stories about people getting screwed
by Paypal..

DONT DO IT!!!
And it just another FEE you have to pay if you actually want to
withdraw the money from your paypal account..
I avoid them at all costs..and I sell/buy on Ebay with no problems.

just my 2cents.

Strange, I haven't had any problems with PayPal. Mind you, I've only ever used it to pay other people. I actually like the added security for online purchases.

Take a look at the fees....

FWIW, I've had a paypal account for some odd four years now and I've never had a problem, however IF you run into trouble with paypal it seems you are in sheep dip.

They tell you the fees before you place the auction, so I don't see how this makes them thieves.

Well, I've been an Ebay and Paypal user for many years now.  As both a buyer and seller I've not been done wrong yet.  Sometimes it seems they are slow to move on something as they investigate a claim to death.

In my opinion those fees are just a part of doing business if you want some kind of protection.

E-Bay pretty much has a monopoly due to the sheer size of it. Ofcourse I can go to other auction sites, but the chances of finding what I want/my audience there are much slimmer.

And no, they're not thieves in the literal sense of the word but in my opinion the fees are very high.

When I last listed something on ebay, I could not turn the "Paypal Accepted" option off.

I had the misfortune to sign up for it a couple of years ago so that I could pay for something and have emailed them several times since requesting that my details be removed - no reply at all from them.

When I list something now, it forces me to accept paypal because it won't let me go to the next stage of listing without entering my email address.  Then, when you get the listing on screen once the auction is live, you get the little Paypal icon that means "Paypal accepted".  I think this is out of order.

Have you tried closing the PayPal account and then listing an item?

Ive been using Paypal for 6 years and have never had an issue with it. Ive bought and sold many items using them and have always had fast results. Paypal is safe and is good at getting disputes resolved in a timely manor. The fee they charge is for that security. You would be surprised what fees you pay using banks these days that you may not even know about.

You don't have to pay any fees with (inter)national bank transfers within the European Union, while Paypal charges
fees which are out of proportion.
Paypal is one big bamboozle!
