You might consider a USB solution with a USB to Ethernet media converter...opens up a whole new world of expansion possibilities!

I'm using a cbm 286 bridgeboard to activate the isa slots of my 4000T with an NE2000 without problems...
You can use your 3com too if you find a cbm bridgeboard... a 286 or 386 would be a good idea, 8086 ones use 8 bit isas and you may have problems, I don't know...

Bridgeboards can be picked up cheaply on Ebay... I see them on there all the time. Usually they're 286's... I've been waiting to find a 386 or 486 one before I pick one up.

You know, I'm kinda suprized Elbox hasn't taken the Mediator to the bridgeboard level yet... Hmm...

I don't think they ever made 486 and higher boards.

Actually, they did... Goldengate boards come in 486SLC/50MHz...

For those who aren't up to speed on old PCs, the 486SLC is a 486SX designed to work in 386 sockets... No FPU onboard. One of the cooler chips made by Texas Instruments (sometimes rebadged by Cyrix).

3COM cards are not NE2000 compatible, but you can use every card which has a dos packet driver...

I got mine from vesalia.de ,  the ethernet card at the moment is £35 but you have to e-mail for a price on the IOBlix.

I don't remember if they made 486's but some company made a pentium one ... I think it was called pentilater or something along those lines.  I'd like to get my hands on one of those with a voltage adapter to allow a 450 k63.  :-D

This *is* doable??? Aigh, I wish I'd known this when my accellerated 2000 was sitting next to me!

Care to elaborate on the minimum/maximum requirements?

I had a 2286 I'd popped a 286-to-486(SLC?) 'chip' into, but never fabricated a good solution to extend the daughtercard the extra inch above the riser.
