ISA Ethernet Card
« on: June 15, 2003, 03:39:46 PM »
Good morning all folks.
I have a question about what kind of networking software I need for ISA Ethernet card (3Com) to my A4000. Can I use Miami or do I need a drivers for it?
I bought it cheap and haven't had time to try it yet.

The A4000 has ISA slots. I don't think they're active tho.
Support AROS sponsor a developer.

yes A4000 has ISA slots but they carry only the power lines.

To activate it, you must install a BridgeBoard card.

The problem is that there aren't drivers for ISA cards.

CORRECTION:

so . . .yes MiamiDX has a MNI driver for GoldenGate2 card (ISA bridgeboard card) with Ethernet 3COM support.

The problen now, is to find a GoldenGate2 card :-)

Ciao

I would estimate the price at about 3 gazillion kg of gold.

Why not go for a Mediator instead? PCI kicks those dead rats asses (you know, the ones ISA suck through garden hoses?) so hard you'll never look back :-)

quite impossible to find it! and very expensive too.

I suggest you, to buy a XSurf2 Zorro card (115,00 EUR) perfect for LAN and DSL connection.

Ciao

To be honest, if you really fancy keeoing the A4000 going, get some PCI board and use cheap PCI network card (and a PCI Sound card and a PCI Gfx card).

Your Amiga will thank you, by being much better.  :-D

yes ofcourse but . . . .you must before buy a Mediator card for A4000D (bad idea IMHO) or a PowerTower/Mirage4000 with Mediator card in bundle . . . not sure the  cheepest way :-)

If the user need only an Ethernet card fot its A4000, the best choise, is a XSurf2.

Hi,

Quote
what does it cost in the second hand?

£69.99 from Eyetech (www.eyetech.co.uk

As for everyone saying go for a PCI bus, ermm well its a great option and if you are going to buy lots of upgrades for your A4K then do, otherwise go for an IOBlix with the ethernet option like me.  :-D
You get more serial and par ports than you will ever need as well as ethernet.

Otherwise go for the X-Surf 2 (Or the original second hand)

If I had one of those pretty original commodore A4000T's (not the crappy AT reissue) I would get a meditator in a flash...

But I don't :-(

You might consider a USB solution with a USB to Ethernet media converter...opens up a whole new world of expansion possibilities!

Back away from the EU-SSR!
