OS 3.9 Boingbag problem
« on: April 15, 2007, 07:06:27 PM »
hi all,

have just recently recieved and installed OS3.9 on my A1200T and thought I'd do the boing bags before I started tinkering with it too much, problem is when I go to install BB1 i get the error "Interpreter: Executing non-function in line 3".

being a bit out of practice with my miggy I'm a bit stumped, has anyone else come accross this ?

I've seen mention of a second edition CD which apparently has BB1 incorperated, could it be that this is what's causing the error ?

If so how would I tell if the CD is SE or the original one ?
(there doesn't seem to be any "SE" markings on the disc)

Spec:
A1200, Blizzard 040/603e, 32Mb ram, idefix 97, EZkey.

Any suggestions welcomed, cheers.

The 2nd edition of the OS3.9 cd is pink

If you have the first edition it has some bugs which one of them is that unarc produces corrupt unarchived files so if you unpack boingbag 1 with unarc it's likely that will cause a problem which you now have

but my guess is that you didn't create an emergency-disk and installed OS3.9 with it which install a compatible Installer tool
Copy "installer" from the "C" folder on your emergency-disk section on your OS3.9 cd to your "C" folder on your Workbench partition and try again

Amiga 4000 - CS MKIII
Amiga 1200 - Blizzard 1230 MKIV
Amiga 1200 - Stock
Amiga CD32 - TF360
A bunch of ol' A500's

You have replaced the original Installer program by an older version. Copy Installer from the OS3.9 CD to Sys:C and Sys:Utilities.

That's not true. The only problem UnArc has is with files with spaces in their names. BB1 can safely be unpacked with the orignal UnArc program. (I didn't check the Contributions drawer, though.)

@ amigaz:

I did install from the emergency disk, not having tooled about with my miggy for a bit I felt it would be a good idea to follow the instructions to the letter ! :)

@ thomas:

basically I have installed os3.9 over a clean install of 3.0 and nowt else since, would the 3.9 installation not have copied an up to date installer during installation ?

Will try copying it across manually anyway but I had assumed that it's up to date.

My CD does seem a pinkish hue so does that mean I can skip straight to BB2 or do I still need to get BB1 sorted ?

I tried running the BB2 installer without actually installing to see if it has the same problem and there is no error when it's first opened.

Thanks for responses guys.

Finally got some miggy time and copied the installer across manually, there was a difference between the installed version and the one on the os3.9 disc after all, wierd as I installed 3.9 using the emergency disc just like it tells you, ah well, never mind, it's done now.

now I've got problems after installing BB2, damn thing keeps freezing about 5 - 10 secs after WB loads  :-(  but I guess that's another thread...

Thanks again for your help guys

Try booting with no S-S, then rename your WBStartup drawer and then boot in to Workbench. If it doesn't crash then something in your WBStartup drawer is making it crash.

Cheers for that Moto, WB started ok and then I decided to run the apps in there manually, one at a time, to see what caused failure, at first pass it seems to be AmiDock. (I've not tried running the apps in different orders yet to see if it's a particular combination causing it.)

Does anyone know if there are known issues with Amidock or any updates I should install for it ?

It's no biggy and I guess I can do without it if not but it seems a shame not to give it a fair shot as it's supposedly one of the selling points of the whole os 3.5/3.9 update.
