Miami Deluxe unavailable? Anywhere?
« on: June 14, 2003, 10:33:16 PM »
Hi all,

I recently bought a PCMCIA adapter and Ethernet card for my miggy and
wanted to use Miami Deluxe with it (because of dynamic IP addressing).
Anywho, seems MiamiDx is no longer available via online
registraton/upgrade. Does anyone know where/if it is still available?
It seems like a good product (I already use the regular version of
Miami) and I'd really like to find it, as otherwise, I will not
be able to use DSL with my Amiga. Thanks in advance!

Don't even think of pestering Holger Kruse, you'll have no luck judging by the stories. Your only option are to either 'buy' some-one elses keyfile or to pirate it.

I too, wouldn't mind purchasing MiamiDX, or, even registering my demo copy of Miami.  But, like Odin said, don't even think of pestering the author.  What to do about a situation as this.  I don't like the pirate idea much, but what to do?  Maybe "Buy" keyfiles and contribute the original purchase price to some good charity or something?  Just a thought, mind you.  But when something is abandoned, what should people do?  Should be an interesting topic for discussion.  Any thoughts?

What really annoys me is that Holger turned down an offer from Kicksoft, where they would pre-purchase 100 keys, to sell from their website (this is all second hand info, so if its wrong i'm sure Ray will correct me. If he comes to Amiga.org, that is :-) ). Thats sad, Holger would have got cash for no effort, the Amiga community would have got somewhere to buy MiamiDx.

I know its up to Holger what he does with his programs, but I just can't understand his attitude!

Oh well. I'm just glad i registered it in time (only just! :-o )

Thanks for the input, folks. It's a shame that the program can't even be purchased anymore. Now, which brave and hono(u)rable soul out there is willing to 'sell' their keyfiles?

Tickly:  Based on old rumours it was H&P who treated him so badly (during 3.5&3.9 making) that he decided to left fot good.  But. I can't tell what really happened, I only know he's one of those tallents (like Hawes et all) Amiga community misses deeply -

You can read Holgers thoughts on software support here.
After you read it, check out the date. There ain't a snowball in hells chance of any action on his part in getting Miami released in any way or form.
The trouble is (and I know it's his choice), is Holger is being such an arse about it. I can understand him ignoring 'pesky' potential buyers, but a genuine one-time-only block purchase would be a nice little earner.
I guess REBOL are paying him too much....................

I must have been one of the first people after you to try and buy a keyfile for MiamiDx online.  I managed to obtain the registration code that (in theory at least) would allow you to obtain a keyfile.  I paid my money and got a USELESS line of ASCII for my troubles.

After this of course, I did drop some of emails, as well as a phone call or two from Australia to inform him of my problems in obtaining a valid and legitimate keyfile and all I got in return was a bucket-load of sweet bugger-all.

Thanks a lot Holger you waste, I hope that my money was worth the trouble of switching you keyfile server off sometime after your registration server.   (I am assuming that you have actually lifted a finger or two to do this, although I may be rather optimistic about it).   With an attitude of "grab the money and run and #### the end-user!", why aren't you working for Microsoft?  I'm sure you'd fit right in with those code-crapping maggots.

oops! sorry i haven't seen your personal infos :-)

I'm quite new with my ADSL Telecom Italia connection and i'm still using Genesis-XSurf2 and the PPPoE device written by Thore Böckelmann .

It works GREAT! the only suggestion, is : if your DSL connection seems slower than normal, try to set your Ethernet card, to half-duplex mode.

Some DSL modems, doesn't like the full-duplex mode.

Ciao

I registered MiamiDx about a year ago. And it worked fine, twice, both times it worked!

Some time after my first keyfile I lost my hd and registered a new version...

Well.. In many points he's Right.  I'm not sure why he was so angry but it's been real fact for years there ain't much money on Amiga Software making ...

About Rebol.. I think he's not workig there anymore. Or if he is, they have made an agreement not to reveal his email etc. to outsiders to give him some peace from this *MOB*
