Hello everyone!!
« on: April 14, 2007, 05:09:36 PM »
Hi!  My name is Douglas and I am setting up an Amiga CDTV system.  I have a complete CDTV with mouse, keyboard, 2 disk drives and the trackball (with regular joystick ports!!!).  I started out with a Commodore 64 back in the early 80's, went to a C128, then a C128D, then a 386/486/pentium and finally ended up on the Macintosh platform where I am today.  I have also owned at various times an Amiga 500/1000/1200/2000/3000, but never used them as full time machines, only to play occasional games.  I am finally getting a bit more "serious" about learning the Amiga platform and I really ended up liking the CDTV because it allows really easy transfers from my Mac to the Amiga via cd-r's and also it has S-video output built in for really easy hook up's to an LCD television.  I have bought some Amiga programming books and am looking forward to playing around with Amigados and also some Amiga Basic and C.  Unlike the rest of the world, I enjoy workbench 1.3 and don't care about 2.x/3.x/4.x, this is all about nostalgia to me and having fun.

Anyways, that's my story..thanks for letting me join the site!!

Have a great day everyone!!!

Douglas

:)

Yes, welcome. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. Enjoy your 1.3-ness and so forth.

Hi!

If you're looking for a more powerful BASIC programming language for the Amiga than AmigaBasic, you should check out AmosPro which can be downloaded from the Amos Factory website.  (Note: You have to join and log into the website to access the downloads area and if you don't have a floppy drive for the CDTV, you may have to use an Amiga emulator on your Mac to install the program.)  Amos was a great way to access the capabilities of the Amiga chipset without all of the extra typing of C.

It's not as good as a productivity software creation package but, unlike AmigaBasic, could run on Amigas with 32-bit addressing.  (AmigaBasic assumes the highest 8 bits of every address are unused and puts byte variables there.  It also allocates 256 bytes for each line of code regardless of how much text is in the line.  Lastly, AmigaBasic is the only software for the Amiga written by Microsoft.  Surely you don't want to support that kind of company do you?  ;-) )

Be careful.  They let dogs in here.
you've had a lot of nice computers to shed on.
Tell me if you need help scrambling cables.

There are no strangers.
Only staff I haven\'t met.

Vote Felinist!
One Cat, at least One Vote!

No votes for dogs.
They will only vote the way their masters tell them to.
And I\'ve seen what their masters vote for (not an encouraging demonstration).
