Mac emulation with Fusion with Mediator/Voodoo 1260
« on: April 13, 2007, 04:04:42 PM »
Hi (again)   :)

I would like to try emulating a Mac using Fusion. I want to experiment with 16 bit colour displays (Mediator/Voodoo 1260 system) and as I understand it Shapeshifter won`t do that.

Is anybody successfully running Fusion on a similar system or is this the curse of Voodoo or something?

I used to use Fusion, but this was in pre-Mediator days using AGA. It worked pretty well as I recall.

Thanks for any help.

I could never get it to open on a Voodoo screenmode when I had the same setup as you. It would just die with some error, or would hang when it tried to boot. I bet Framiga can help you - I think he's quite experienced with Fusion. TBH I gave up in frustration (though I might try again with my A4000)

OOPS - typo edit.

I would be interested to hear how you get on with it.

Framiga, you have been nominated Fusion Ninja Sensei, any thoughts?   :-)

No, but when I investigated it and it looked a bit scary to me.  :-)

If you want to experiment with Apple then I've got a few in the attic you can come and collect for a couple of beers ;-)

Get a SAM, while you can! The new AMIGA is here!

That's very kind but I'm not after Mac hardware - just a bit of Fusion expertise with Mediator cards. Thanks though.

I'd say Basilisk II is your best option... I've been playing with it for a week or so and it runs System 7 perfectly!

Hi,

I used my Amiga with blizzard060+mediator+voodoo3 between 2000 and 2004 every day for almost all my work (MS Office, Photoshop, Quark), including printing and internet.

In the beginning 7.x, later Mac OS8.
I tried several graphic drivers and screenmodes etc.
I normally used a 32bit screenmode..BUT FAAST!!

It worked flewless, really very fast...faster than Fusion and much more complete than the Basilisk II.

I will help you with it... contact me private.

@Mattijs
When you say it was faster than Fusion, does that mean you were using Shapeshifter? Or Basilisk? Also while the offer of help by PM is generous it's always best to keep help in the forum where other people can benefit from it :-)

I was using Shapeshifter, I tried to run Basilisk a few times, but without any luck (strange because the same hardfile worked perfect with Basilisk on the PC...)

Shapeshifter was way faster that fusion with my configuration.
I used only fusion when I had to switch between different screenmodes or when I had to use the virtual memory because of a lack of fast memory...

The last Shapeshifter with the CardtrickEVD videodriver
P96 8bit or 32bit ARGB works very fast with mediator+voodoo3
Printing (Epson STC740)was great with PowerPrint 4.50.

I used a partition, but you can use a hardfile when you increase the buffers in userstartup.
