IIRC you need pretty new version of the Payback if you like to run it with Warp3D and Voodoo3. Earlier versions had too big texture sizes or something IIRC :)

But it works anyway. Even though bit slowly on 68k, PPC recommended for 3D accelerated version. 2D version is okayish with 060.

Payback uses audio.device for sound. You'll need eaudio.device to run it on Peg. But at least with Peg1 it slows the game pretty much. But if you turn down audio volume completely, then it runs really nicely.

We've played it on Peg more than on 060 ever. Two player split screen runs with good framerate etc. Fun game and nice ideas here and there. Competition Pro USB joystick works fine with it on Peg also. Exploding RC car is great fun as well as tank ;)

@pVC
Would eaudio.device (MOS version of audio.device on Aminet) improve the performance under MOS?

As I tried to say, eaudio.device (MOS version of course) is the one which slows it down. I think people have mentioned, that it isn't that slow on Peg2.

Oh sorry I misread your original post and thought you said "audio.device" :-) I'll give the demo a try on my PegII (once I get round to setting it up again...)

It ran very well for me on my A1200/060/AGA. Hardware acceleration *used* to work for me in WinUAE, but for some reason it crashes the emulator now during startup, sometimes Windows too.

Payback is a great game.I have tried the demo some months ago
and it was running on my -yesterday resurrected- A1 very smoothly

I know it is only a demo version but the final version
should really kick some ashes!!

I have planned to buy it somewhere in the future cause its
technical level is of the highest range for a game like this
with a minimal spec of 68k machines.

Worth buying it and like to see on some Amiga shop's stock
soon.

Amiga 500 1 MB
Amiga 1300,Blizzard 030/50 Mhz,32 MB RAM,etc...
(on repair)
CD 32
Amiga One PPC G3 800 Mhz,Seagate HD 200 GB,NEC DVD-RW,LG DVD-ROM,256 MB RAM,PixelView TV Card,Soundblaster 128,ATI Radeon 7000 64 MB,X-Arcade double for xMAME,OS 4.0  ...

@ motorollin

Yeah, the eaudio replacement is fine for Payback on my Peg2 (though performance is lousy for Say, of all programs).

Once it's installed and updated, just run the setup utility to pick software and hardware rendering screenmodes, enable hardware rendering, and start it up. Use the 68K executable, though. The WarpOS version bangs the hardware (performance reasons on classics) so even eaudio won't get you any sound with that version.

I like it so much that I made a custom map for it
called "rocket car heaven".

Very fun map with a long track and some smaller,
and alot of space to go wild with the rocket car(s).
Think I have to play it again now.
Hopelessly addicted to the world\'s best strategy game.

I have an A3000 with Mercury 040 @ 35MHz with 32MB and Cybervision 64/3D.

I just have standard OS 3.1... soon to upgrade to OS 3.9

Will it play well on a machine like that ?

Maybe... don't get your hopes up, though.

Every time i start the Payback demo on my A1200/060, it restarts the machine after all those green bars turn red and loading is done :pissed:

I played the game on 040/40 AGA and I was satisfied.

@HardStep
Make sure you have the latest demo/update.
