Printer died :(
« on: April 12, 2007, 08:44:11 PM »
Well, my Canon i950 has died. It has the dreaded 7 orange flashes and I don't want to pay £84 for a new print head.
It served me well and made some of the best prints I've seen from a home printer.
Soooo...what should I get to replace it? I want something that has photo quality printing at least as good as the i950. I don't want cartridges that are more expensive than the Canon ones (about £8 to £10 each). A4 will do but I will consider A3.

Any suggestions? It will be used on my PC only.

I have unused cartridges for the i950 for sale, still sealed in boxes, if anyone is interested. I'll sell them for half price. These are the ones I have:

I can include the ones in the printer too, free of charge. The black is almost 100% full, the photo cyan and yellow are about 80%. Others are below 50% and I'll chuck them.
The cartridges can be used in the following printers:

Okay two updates:

1) I got rid of all the cartridges except an unopened Photo Cyan and two opened cartridges: another Photo Cyan at 80% and an accidentally-opened Photo Magenta at 100%.
I am going to give these away. UK only. PM me with your printer model and your location.

2) There is an Epson promotion, involving the R1400 printer. If you take your old printer in, working or not, you get a £100 discount on the R1400 printer. This is a UK promotion and it ends on Monday. I have reserved one for myself and I will be collecting it tomorrow. They get my Canon i950 and I get the Epson for £200 only. That's quite a deal. Google Epson printer trade-in for a list of participating computer stores in the UK.

More about the Epson deal.
I just visited the shop, on Tottenham Court road here in London. I dropped off the i950, in its original box. They didn't even open the box. All they wanted to know was whether there was any ink in there, because the printer will probably 'go under a roller'  :-o

They also had another printer on the same rebate scheme, the R360. This is an A4 printer. With the rebate, you can take that one for under £80. I went for the R1400. It is an A3 printer, a big brute. Got it home, checked it out, made a few A3+ prints (it supports borderless prints of 13"x19" (329mm x 483mm). It all looks good.
So yup, I am quite happy with this deal. I was going to bin that i950, but it saved me £100 on the Epson. It's mine for £200.
Not bad, eh? Those of you wanting to take advantage of this deal had better move quickly because it is for April only. The shop I visited had at least one R1400 and one R360 left.

Why don't you tried a contact cleaner spray to revive your printer's heads ?
I saved some Epson in times with this methode.
