Command n' Conquer 3 (PC)
« on: April 12, 2007, 03:40:10 PM »
Just played the demo, I like it a lot.
Does anyone here have the full game? I am tempted to buy it myself, but I want to know how many single player missions there are and what you think of the game in general.

Haven't got the full game myself, but from playing the demo it's definitely pretty fun.  That said, I don't know if it's quite at the same level the old Westwood releases were - in particular, the mammoth tank seems insanely unbalanced when playing skirmishes, and playing tank-rush after tank-rush gets a bit boring eventually.  I guess human players might be able to counter it better (the harder AI just seems to "cheat" rather than acting more as an experienced player would).

Still, I'm probably going to grab it soonish as I've already spent far too much time playing just the demo!  I take it you've tried playing as Nod BTW?  It's very easy to do on the demo (just using one shortcut key!) and I've found myself using more creative strategies with their units (the most expensive Nod unit is incapable of taking out aircraft).

@ alx

I haven't tried Nod yet. How did you try it?
I will probably buy the game, though. I have to finish a few work projects first though.

Basically, the only thing EA did to stop you selecting Nod in the skirmish menu is disabling the mouseclick.  Shortcut keys still work!  So click the dropdown, hold down the letter "N" and click on "Nod".  Do this enough times and it'll select (make it the last thing you do before starting the game, as changing another option seems change it back to the default).  Same thing if you want to play against GDI, or change the type of AI opponent from "balanced".

Okay, I bought the game.
Now that is a landmark event in itself, because it is the first PC game I have ever bought. I've bought many C64, Amiga, PS2 and handheld games, but this is my first PC game. Wooohooo!

Well, I am enjoying it immensely. The Croatia mission is very difficult, but I have finished it and managed to make it to Germany. This is where the third faction appears.
It has been well worth it (but I am biased because I am a Dune and Warcraft fan).
I see there is a Kane edition of CnC3 too, but it has mainly cosmetic extras and is £10 more.

By the way, the Ion Cannon kicks arse!

Sorta gone off the RTS genre as of late, currently I'm quite immersed in "S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow of Chernobyl", probably the best FPS I've played.
