Along with a accel. for my A1200, I am thinking of picking up a scan doubler. I am thinking of either an internal or external one and I am interested in the ToastScan external unit.

Anyone use it and have any experience with it?

Also, are there any pics of it on the web? I have looked high and low and not really found anything on it.

Thanks!!  :-D

Try and give softhut a call, they've got them listed on
their web site,no pics though.And you'll need a video
toaster, as that is what this unit is intended for.and
if youv'e got the toaster make sure that the accel.
that you intend to buy is compatible with the toaster.

Todd, I thought the toastscan scan doubler was a software hut exclusive (or something they had a say in).  I would give them a call or email to get more info.

Ohhh...its only for a Toaster setup? For some reason I was thinking it was useable on any Amiga.

Well, scratch that one out.

Anyone else suggest a suitable Scan doubler for use with my A1200? I want to make sure that it works with anything I might run on my A1200 (games, apps self boot stuff). I was also thinking of the DCE internal unit, but I have heard that the quality on DCE's products sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.

From what I say the ting plugged into the RGB out, and had a VGA out on the other side, perfectly cross compatible, they sell it with monitors.

You are probably right on that then.the ad at softhut
led me to believe otherwise and the fact that the toaster also has the BNC connecters led me to think
it was just for the toaster. like I said just give them a call . Mrhardware is also very helpful, and he's got
lots of used stuff.

Ok, so I called Software Hut to get the low down on the Internal Scan Doubler and I talked to what sounded like an older lady. She didn't sound very pleasant and she said they they are no longer made and the only ones they have are the external ToastScan units. But the internal ones are still listed on the website.

I was going to order the ToastScan, but since she didn't seem very polite I think I will hold off and see if ones comes up used somewhere.

As far as I know the ToastScan is supposed to work with or without a toaster... The idea behind it is you can use it on the output from a Genlock without interfering with the Genlock's operation... BUT, it should also work directly connected to the Amiga.

If you can find one someplace else, go for it. Personally I try and stay away from SoftHut.

Hey Todd,

I've been using a DCE internal version for about
7 months now with no problems, and the output
quality far exceeds any external unit. You should
be able to find them new from KDH and Vesalia,
shipping from Germany should only be about two
weeks tops.

The external model can be useful though if you
want to switch it around between different systems.
