Problem upgrading to OS3.9
« on: April 05, 2007, 05:59:50 AM »
Hello all ppl.

I have a persistent problem when try to upgrade my 1200/030(52 MHz) - 130 Mb RAM - ROM 3.1 - HD 4.3Gb - etc, to OS 3.9 (original).

Every time I try it, when the installation is done, rebooting then every time I try click on ANY icon (even on emergency disk icon), I got a 8000 0004 guru.

Nothing wrong happens when change the OS again to 3.1.

I have make a full backup of the system on another partition, format the boot one, install a plain 3.1 plus IDEFIX demo. No luck at all.

BTW: the other 5 partitions are SFS 1.236, the boot one is FFS 45.4 (upgraded, obviously). Could be this the problem? I tryed to format the partition with FFS 40.1 too, no luck.

Can anyone help me in this issue?

 :boohoo:
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Might be something in the 3.9 rom update, one possibility would be to use the "SKIPROMMODULES" tag to weed out the updates until it stops crashing.

F.e,

SetPatch SKIPROMMODULES scsi.device ram-handler exec.library

etc... I *think* there is a way to just skip it entirely with an easier command, but I just can't remember. I'm sure someone else here will know.

Is your 030 card overclocked? It's possible that something in 3.9 could trigger an otherwise unseen HW failure.

The NOROMUPDATE switch will skip all of the updates, but I don't think this will help you much. You did install using the Emergency Disk didn't you?

That 52MHz Crystal sounds like it could affect stability. Try making the card a 50MHz card again (or are you reporting 52MHz from a sysinfo-type-program?)

i can't see why do you want to use ffs on the boot partition... go install the latest sfs for os3.x, i use it on both of my amigas on all partitions and it's rock.
check greg donner's os3.9 faq for any fearther help.

p.s. 1  i hope that you boot from the emergency disk first and install os after...

p.s. 2  have you try yet to install the boing bags 1&2?

amiga os 3.9 updates
A3040/25 AmigaOS 3.9
A1260BPPC AmigaOS 3.9/4.0
Sam440ep AmigaOS 4.1.2

Try removing AmiDOCK from your startup drawer and see if you still get this error, then report back here.

I would try this before you do anything else that is more complicated/drastic.

Hi everyone!

Like Jack the ripper could say, start from parts:

- I just don't use the SFS in the boot partition YET (Ooooooooh , I'm just too lazy); ;-)

- Amidock is disabled;

- Maybe could the startup-sequence in the emergency disk is a "tweakedcopy" of the 3.1 original one? I didn't look inside it 'till now;

- In 3.1 I boot with the "CPU FastROM burst datacache databurst instcache"  command, could be this?

- In other partitions I have NIcons 4.3 images installed.

I only could boot in 3.9 if using early startup control "without startup-sequence", i.e., no GUI.:madashell:

- I have to change the original crystal, but 52 MHz is almost no difference at all (run fine in 3.1 with a lot of patches and programs on WBStartup and startup-sequence), not even a single guru). 4% of speedup is nothing to worry about (and I  put coolers and a fan inside the case, BTW).  :-D
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Again, did you boot from the Emergency Disk when you partitioned your HDD and installed the OS?

Nope, I just format the hd with original hdtoolbox and reboot the system with the emergency disk.

In order to partitioning I must make a full backup of hd before via UAE (I hate to open the Miggy and take the hd away in order to put it in a UAE peecee).
