Hello,getting started :)
« on: April 03, 2007, 09:18:13 PM »
HI,

I would like to ask many question about amiga but the first thing is getting a amiga and getting conected to the internet with it.

I have been browsing around with no real idear about this computer i left behind many years ago,so i thought i would sign up and just ask :)

What amiga should i get there seems to be many versions on places like ebay.

I would allso like to conect by lan to the internet, have a browser and email client msn etc...
Have a good graphics card and sound and so on.
I'm not exspecting to play high end games i wont to leave them behind and feel what it is like to have a real computer instead of this great big waste of power i have running beside me.

Any help to get me started on buying and getting up and running on a amiga online would be much appreciated.

In the mean while i will google around.

Hi there and welcome,

I have a 2000 for nostalgia's sake and I was looking at adding an x-surf board for connecting it to the net, but I think you'd be better off with an Amiga 1200.

In my opinion, classic Amigas are probably not the best machines for surfing the net though...

I only use my Amiga for exploring my first ever machine. I play old games on it and tinker a bit that's all.

In case you get a standard A1200, you still need to upgrade the computer with some fast ram, and an accelerator of some sort. The A1200 comes with 0 fast ram and a 020.

The better choice would be to get an A4000, which can take up to 16 MB fast ram and comes with at least a 68030 for the standard machine. Furthermore the A4000 is ready for expansions cards such as graphics, sounds, ethernet right away, the A1200 in most cases needs to be towerised, and expanded with slots in order to be upgraded with graphics and sound (ethernet is not a problem on A1200 though).
