Oddity: 4000D more stable after 16MB installed on mobo

This is not really a question, more of an observation.  And, frankly, there could be other factors involved, such as reseating the Picasso IV and X-Surf 3cc cards which had to be done during the process.

In any case, I have noticed that my A4000D has run much more stably and experienced fewer crash-related reboots since I installed the 16MB of RAM on the motherboard.

I leave my 4000D running under OS3.9 with at least Miami, Garshneblanker, and whatever the blanker which shuts the monitor off is called  (DPMI Blank?) and WBClock.  Sometimes I leave applications like WeatherExperience or AmIRC running as well.  I will see a reboot something like every four to five days.  Since putting the 16MB on the mobo, I have enjoyed as much as eight days without a crash.

If your amiga was unstable and became 'more' stable after just installing fastram your chipram might be defective.

Remove the fastram from the system and run a memory test. Installing the fastram might just have reduced the chance of runninc code from a defective memory location. Hence your system became 'more' stable but is probably still somewhat unstable.

Edit; things can also be simpler focussing on the software you have running. Perhaps a log file of some sort is being maintained on your ram drive. Your machine can crash because it runs out of available memory and software is coping bady with that. Installing the additional 16M buys some time in that regard.

I should also have mentioned that I am running a CyberStorm MKIII with 128MB.  I've always been pretty confident that the random crashes were caused by Garshneblanker modules, especially since there have been times when I have actually caught the software error window on the screen referring to a specific blanker.

I don't doubt the potential of bad RAM.  I have, however, been able to test all of my RAM modules to find them 100% operational.

Regardless of anything, I love this system. Just wish I could go PCI and PPC :)
