Recommendations for a 4-way IDE adapter?
« on: March 18, 2007, 06:35:11 AM »
Hi everyone, as I will be getting a nice amount back on my
taxes this year, I wanted to upgrade my miggy a bit. I have a
spare 8.5GB IDE HD laying around, thought it would be handy for backups,
etc.

What would be the best 4-way IDE adapter to get? I would prefer
something fairly easy to install/use, and come with all
needed software, etc., to get going right away.
I really don't like opening my A1200 tower unless absolutly
necesary....it's my only '060-equipped Amiga :)

What would you guys recommend?

Many Thanks

The Elbox 4-way adapter is the best if you have an A1200 without a Zorro expansion.  With a Zorro expansion, I would say the Buddha only because it gives you an extra clockport.
I like the Elbox 4-way because it is tiny (easily fits inside the stock case), and has two each 44-pin and 40-pin connectors.  It also comes with better software, specifically AllegroCDFS.  Its faster than IDEFix, currently supported and has much better DVD support.  The advantage of the Buddha is you get the extra clockport.  Disadvantage is the software for it kind of sucks, but at least its a legit copy of IDEFix.

Yes that is the same one I use an Elbox, never had a problem with it.
Not to expensive.
With that I am using an 20Gig HDD, IDE Zip100 drive and a CD rom 52x and a DVD rom.

Hey thanks to you two for the help. I am not familiar with
AllegroCDFS, would you say it's better than CacheCDFS that comes with OS3.9?

Hmm, now just need to find room in my Power Tower for that
4th drive...

@stopthegop: did I read correctly in your sig that you have
a Milan060 ST Clone?? ....drool...

Ahh, but I have TWO Mattel Aquarius systems :)
