Banal NTSC/PAL question

I know this question might seem a lil stupid, but....

A friend of mine is in Canada at the moment, and will be there for a couple more weeks (He's staying with his dad who lives there). Anyway, I won't go into too much detail, but it turns out his dad has an Amiga 2000, and when he found out that I was into Amigas, said I could have it, as he was thinking of chucking it.

Now aside from the fact that my mate might not be too chuffed about hauling the thing over in his hand luggage, it will be a NTSC machine right? I know they run at slightly different speeds to the PAL versions, but will it present me with any other problems in using the thing? I am based in the UK

you will have problems (the picture will scroll uncontrollably)  if you plug it into a TV that only supports PAL (via the video out), else the other option is getting a converter and plugging it into a PC monitor (~£60)

Well even moderately modern TV's can display PAL and NTSC so that will not be a major problem I think. What will be a problem is the powersupply. Here in Europe everyone(?) uses 230V and in the US/Canada it's 130V iirc. But perhaps the A2000 PSU has a little switch on it to set the voltage...

First make sure you swith the psu from 110 to 220 volts!! :-D

If you want to run the Amiga thru the TV, then plug it into the back off your VCR and run it through that into the TV.  Nearly all modern VCR's can accept either signal, and it will output PAL/SCART to your TV.
