Crappy Handwriting...
« on: March 05, 2007, 07:57:33 AM »
Why is it that no matter how hard I try, my hand writing still looks crap. Seriously, its not changed since I was six and at times, can proove a tad embarrassing. It boggles the mind, I can accomplish so much else, yet my hand writing still resembles the artwork of a demented Chimpanzee with a box of crayons and a sheet of wax paper. Anyone else suffer from this curse?

Personally I blame the era of electronic communication in which we are now firmly entrenched.

My handwriting skills have deteriated due to simple lack of use.

A few weeks ago I got a gel parker refill and I've been writing something everyday since.

My writing isn't too bad normally, but it can get worse the more I write.

I could put doctor's writing to shame sometimes :-D

If I write very slowly I can write neatly, for example when addressing an envelope or filling in a form. But if I try to write at speed my handwriting becomes illegible. This is made worse by my left-handedness, which means my hand sits on wet ink as I write and deposits it across the page. Using a fast-drying biro usually stops this happening.

I don't find it particularly embarrassing or much of a problem as I can avoid handwriting for most of my life, and when I do need to I can write neatly - it just takes ages!

I'm sure it's just a matter of practice. If I tried consistently to write neatly then I would probably learn to do it more quickly. But honestly, I can't be arsed.

Your skills in proper spelling too, apparently. I am of course not an English native, but I strongly suspect you meant to write deteriorated  :-P .

I do a lot of math on paper, as well as program design and rough graphical sketches---although those have been superseded by my Wacom Intuos 3. (A cool but expensive toy.) The most handwriting I do in my lab journal, and that keeps them skills fresh and active. I have never suffered from a bad or ugly hand, though; my writings are unusually IOTTMCO.

"deteriorated"

Missing out letters whilst typing is quite a common one for me, in truth. That's usually caused by my typing too quickly so as to avoid being caught here whilst at work ;-)

@Cymric
Yes of course that's what I meant :-)

@Karlos
Same here; hurried replies -> missed letters.

Workshy longhaired smelly hippy!

I'm suprised the lecturers even bother grading my tests. When I'm writing in a hurry and under stress such as with written tests my handwriting turns into something my 4-year old cousin would be ashamed of. And it's only marginally worse than my normal handwriting..

I can usually spell just fine. Remembering to include all the letters (in the correct sequence) in a word when typing it quickly, well, that's another story :lol:

And trying to lure the poor and frightened Loch Ness monster back to the loch... I do not doubt there will be a clause added very soon to its contract with the local tourism industry that it shall not ever, under any circumstances, be made to act like a rubber ducky again.
