Looks like we all got the same sort of deal. That big one underneath sure is nice though, I like that a lot.

here in NY it was a very clear night and we saw a beautiful maroon moon. The white sliver of light (for us) was on the left side of the moon. well, that was when the eclipse was starting to end.

I was worried about being about to see the  moon because we have had rain and cloudy days all week, so this was quite a treat!

I believe the next red moon happens around aug 28th or thereabouts!

first time I have tried, have got 60+ shots just playing about with the settings whilst taking them, exposures vary from 1/250 of a second up to 30 seconds, just need a bigger lens to attach to my old Sony F717 :-D
4 seconds seemed best for the red shots

Yes very good photos indeed thanks AJS. I also got stuck at the Yahoo groups log in page earlier. I am a member but have long forgotten both my user name and password. They will be something to do with the Amiga of course, but that doesn't really narrow it down much

It's a tough one to photograph.

Not if you use the right tools... Which remain, in this age of cameraphones and Handycam freeze-frames, an SLR, a tripod and a telephoto lens.

You can get yourself set up for a couple of hundred quid, but people would rather spend that on a shiny new consumer digicam, no doubt with a built-in MP3 player or other such nonesense, and ultimately get the results they deserve.

Hey, I am not complaining. I use my camera mainly for macro work and it suits me not to have to develop that. Whether I get the moon or not is no biggie.

 Anyone watching it now?

Yup, I saw it ! though I nearly missed it completely - only noticed cos it was mentioned in the 6 o'clock news...

I did take some experimental pictures with my DC3400 (nearly forgot to use the tripod ;-)) but the zoom feature isnt good enough.

I did also take the opportunity to observe totality in my telescope* - very nice at 30x ! no piccies though - my afocal techique isnt sorted yet, though I'm plotting a neat little 'hack' involving a webcam...

1/250th of a second is just about perfect for moon shots, also helps if you underexpose by a stop or so, gives you more to work with later, nice effort all the same :-)
