Floppy Drive Question
« on: February 22, 2007, 01:02:53 AM »
Is an A4000d floppy drive compatible with an A1200 tower if its the FDD type ?

And was there anything special about the A3000 floppy drive that differs in anyway from the A1200. Its just that I fitted it to my tower and it wasn`t recognised.

Electrically, all Amiga floppy drives are identical.

If your A1200 is an Escom unit, then the floppy circuit on the motherboard is slightly different. It'll only take certain PC drives by default. There's information kicking around here and on Aminet about the specifics.

Hi

Thanks for that. It's an Elbox EZ-Tower. I have tried a number of Amiga drives with varying success, but never an A4000 drive, which I have arriving through the post. I just wish they would keep Pin 1 on the same side with some of these drives.

The A3000 drive I got is probably faulty then. I just get the NDOS on the screen when I put in a floppy for this particular drive. Looks more like the A2000 drive which I currently have fitted. Trouble with the A2000 drive... ( don`t laugh ) I can actually push the floppy right through the mechanism and inside the tower, if I miss the slot in the front. You have to see this to believe it.. There is no front cover plate on the drive, just the bare mechanism. Trouble is it's throwing up loads of read errors, and cleaning hasn`t helped. Its now destroying disks, like my IDEFix disk this weekend, so it has to be changed.
